2024 NFL season, Week 2: What We Learned from Sunday's games

Nexjen Stats of the Game Max Crosby has participated in 100 % of Raiders' defense snaps for two consecutive games (in total 63 play).

Ravens, who had never entered the playoffs with NFL Research 0 wins and 2 losses, has been 0 wins and 2 losses for the first time since 2015.

Los Angeles Chargers 26, Carolina Panthers 3

Harvest of Bobby Caunac:

  1. Johnston finally blooms. For Quentin Johnston, 2023 was a forgotten rookie year, and many have limited him as a leading pass catch. In the less offense of Los Angeles on Sunday, he did not have many opportunities, but Johnston made use of his opportunity and appealed that he was probably immature. Johnston adjusted the 2 9-yard a little unde r-throwing ball by Justin Herbert, and adjusted to Jace Horn, a cornerback. Later, it opened wide in the end zone with 3rd-and-GOAL, scoring easily. He finished the day with 51 receiving yards with three catches in addition to these two TD receives. At this point, Carolina is obviously struggling, but Johnston, who reminds everyone why he was a firs t-round player in 2023, should still be given a compliment.
  2. The chargers are as expected on the ground. The Greg Roman offense coordinator's game plan was perfect. Los Angeles was happy to do the ground, with Panthers struggling and the defense hardly resisted. Roman directly instructed 130 yards of slow 20 times to 219 yards for 44 lamp plays. J. K. Dobins was in charge of 17 of them and seemed to be the most dangerous runner in the team. On average, 7. 7 yards, 131 yards, the most great of them was 43 yards, which were free and jumped into the end zone. Last weekend, a few long gains were not enough, but this was exactly what he was modified in the second week. Justin Herbert also recovered from the preshed sole fascia injury and won 18 yards in six rashing.
  3. The Panthers are in trouble. Carolina is barely functioning in 2024. The defense, without defensive lineman Derrick Brown, had no answer up front, and the secondary too often allowed L. A. pass catchers to have open space on intermediate routes. The offense didn't get a first down until their fifth drive with just under four minutes left in the first half. Bryce Young threw an interception in traffic on the next play. He was 18-of-26 for 84 yards, a career low. Even with some progress, the team was too undisciplined and was penalized for 90 yards on nine fouls. All of this is why the Panthers are already staring at a minus-60 hole through two games.

Next-gen stats for this game: Bryce Young didn't complete a single pass of 10 yards or more. He only attempted two passes of 10+ yards, despite leading all dropbacks.

NFL Research: J. K. Dobbins became the first player since Garrison Hearst of the 49ers in 1998 to have 130+ yards rushing and a touchdown in his team's first two games.

New Orleans Saints 44, Dallas Cowboys 19

  • Rewatch Saints vs Cowboys on NFL+
  • Article: Kamara scores 4 TDs in Saints win

Kevin Patra's takeaway:

  1. Carr, Saints rush Dallas defense. Klint Kubiak's early return of the offense is perfect. New Orleans has scored on Derek Carr's first 15 drives of the 2024 season. On Sunday, the Saints scored touchdowns on their first six possessions, but that was preceded by an interception tip. The Saints had Carr perfect deep shots. The QB hit Rashid Shahid for a 70-yard touchdown. Alvin Kamara threw a screen for 54 yards for one of his four touchdowns of the day to open the second quarter. Kamara looked vintage in Kubiak's offense, with perfect vision and slipperiness on the outside runs. The offensive line did a good job in front of Carr, keeping the QB mostly clean and creating time for deep shots (Micah Parsons had only three QB pressures). The Saints offense was very efficient, finding paydirt six consecutive times, but also barely turning up third downs. In five drives in the first half, the Saints faced third down three times. That's the definition of efficient.
  2. Cowboys Continue to Struggle in the Red Zone Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense didn't play poorly, but they continued their early season trend of stalling drives. The Cowboys scored on four of their five first half possessions, but three were field goals. Back-to-back touchdowns by New Orleans meant the game was bound to slip away from Mike McCarthy's Cowboys. Dallas got some early play, including a 65-yard catch-and-run touchdown by CeeDee Lamb, but their struggles in the red zone continued. Inconsistencies in the running game showed up at key times, hindering Dallas' ability to extend drives. The Cowboys were 6-of-13 on third down, 1-of-3 on fourth down and 0-of-3 in the red zone. Not getting the ball into the end zone didn't hurt Dallas last week, but it hurt them on Sunday.
  3. The Saints defense is playing with malice. Dennis Allen's defense was throwing haymakers all game long, punishing every ball carrier and pass catcher. Whether it was Demario Davis rumbling downhill, Alontae Taylor diving into the backfield for a tackle for a loss, Carl Granderson giving up 1. 5 sacks and a team-high seven pressures, Tyrann Mathieu slumping over a would-be pass catcher or trying to throw an interception, the Saints men in black were giving it their all. We knew the defense was going to be solid going into this season. With a good offense, the defense can attack the ball with their ears perked up. Over the past two weeks, New Orleans has played two of the most complete games in the NFL. Week 1 was a bit of a disappointment because of the opponent. Beating Dallas with Big D should get the league on its toes.

Next-gen stats from this game: Derek Carr to Rashid Shahid's 70-yard TD went 54. 5 yards through the air. Shahid's 50+ yard reception was his seventh since the start of 2023, the most in the NFL. No other receiver has more than four.

NFL Research Alvin Kamara became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to record multiple 150+ scrimmage yards and four+ scrimmage TDs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20, Detroit Lions 16

Kevin Patra's takeaway:

  1. Bucks, Detroit and playoff humiliation. The Todd Bowls team headed for Detroit, injuring the main player. The tumper was missing out of the secondary players, Antowan Winfield Jr., and Karija Kansy left, and the game without the starting tackle Luke Gedeki. During the match, Bucks also lost Stardy Fence Line Man Vita Vea. Aidan-Hatinson, despite the essentials of stretching the game for stretching, stuck the tampa. Despite Hatchinson's match, Hatchinson whipped Justin School with almost every play, Baker Mayfield showed a skillful pocket mobility and never panicked. Mayfield has been connected to Chris Godwin (7 times, 117 yards, touchdown) many times and decided to touch down the final with a QB draw. Mayfield's success is directly linked to the increase in the presence in pockets and the speed of the rotation of the head to avoid disasters. Bucks took Lions' mistakes and most of them avoided their toes. It may not have been a beautiful victory, but it was a strong bone for a bowl club for pla y-off conten t-the team that ended the pos t-season last season.
  2. Lions and Dan Campbell were unable to overcome mistakes, and took responsibility for the failed End of Half, who lost the chance to kick the field goal. In a fou r-point game, the unprecedented mistake was that the number of people who were too large on the field to waste the last three seconds of the 2nd Q was a serious mistake. But that was not the only mistake. Detroit committed a big foul. Turnover twice. Mistackle. Jared Goff's unstable season start, which continued by QB with a series of Missfire and throwing a short ball over and over with important play. Goff's first intercept may have been overlooked by the penalty, but the second intercept was a remarkable mistake that when the Lions were in the scoring area, the receiver was thrown in the middle that was not nearby. Ta. Goff doesn't seem comfortable through two games and has made some unpleasant decisions. Detroit came to use Bucks confused secondary. It didn't go as planned.
  3. Bucks D shuts out Lions from the end zone many times. Detroit is once in the red zone once and once in front of the goal. Bowes' defense gave a total of 463 yards, but closed the door when needed. Safety Jordan Whitehead decided to play one after another. Rhin Bucker Servosia Dennis is very active in the latter half of the range and speed. Rookie's nickel and Thaki Smith have decided a large rosa tackle. And the corner Christian Ijen and Zion McColam step up. In the fourth quarter, it was Bows's club group Effort that moved the hig h-power Lions offense from the end zone. Since the merger of 1970, Buccaniars has been the second team that has won even though it was a total of 200 yards (463-216), and won despite the sack difference of minus 5 or less (Others: 1987. The eighth week, Houston Oulers in the match against Cincinnati Bengals).

Nex t-generation stats in this match: Jared Goff, who was under pressure, was 17 times out of nine passes, 117 yards, two intercepts, and 35. 3 passer rating.

In the second week of the NFL Research, Adan Hatchinson recorded a career high 4. 5 sack, and has recorded the second largest Sack as a Detroit player since the start of a personal sack record in 1982. Hatchinson recorded 3. 0 sacks in the first quarter and recorded more than 3 sacks on the first Q since 2000 (the first since the first week of Tennessee, Arizona, the first week of Tennessee).

In 2022, Malik Willis's first NFL starter recorded six times out of 10 passes, 55 yards, one pick, 12 yards of running, and led Titans to a 17-0 victory. Packers's first starter was given a little more rope, and Willis was much more efficient, completed 12 times out of 14 passes, recorded 122 yards, and led a fierce battle with Coltz to victory. Jordan Love's absence has shown that Packers' pass games will be hit for the time being. Willis tried to pass only five times in the first half, and Packers overwhelmed Colts in a rangement. However, as the match was prolonged, the more Coltz shrinking the front line gap, the more Matt Ruffler's trust was trusted to Willis. 1. LaFleur kept the Colts defense on its knees. The Colts were especially injury-riddled on defense, missing Julian Blackmon and JuJu Breens, and DeForest Buckner was limited to nine snaps against Green Bay. But the defense was unforgiving in the first half, allowing 237 rushing yards. But it was also bad that Willis looked so efficient in his first start in two years. Linebacker Zaire Franklin made a game-saving play by peeling off Jacobs at the entrance to the end zone with the Colts down 10-0, and the Colts rallied to keep it close. They were better defensively in the second half, but only had two real stops. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur did a great job navigating the game in Willis' first start, throwing a kitchen sink running game at the Colts in the first half and correcting some of the tackling and angle issues to the ball that were evident against Houston, but if Indianapolis wants to win a game like this, they'll have to put together a better fourth quarter on defense.
  2. Nex t-generation stats in this match: Colts' QB Anthony Richardson succeeded in 6 times over 10 yards out of 16 times, 100 yards, one touchdown, and three intercepts. In the first week, he succeeded four times out of 10 times in Texans, 184 yards, and twice touchdown. The only success of Richardson's Manka Valley was a fou r-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce just before the end of the match. In the first two games in the 2024 season, Richardson has more intercept (twice) thrown at the mana chara than a complete throw (one).

  • Jaguars cannot open their way. Despite the fact that Cleveland committed more than twice the foul (13 to 6) of Jacksonville, many of Browns' early success was that Jaguars had extraordinary opportunities. Jacksonville committed the fouls of Raffing the Passer twice and was forced to settle the Delay of Game twice in the Galle Two Go (eventually the field goal was settled. ) In addition, the Il Gal Shift in the last drive in Jaguz loses a 1 0-second ru n-off, lowering the possibility of reversal at the last minute. During this time, Lawrence was struggling to connect with the open target, and the offense did not appear until the end of the third quarter, thanks to the long completion of Brian Thomas Jr.. The conditions were not advantageous, but Jaguars also had too little time to do a comeback, and did not help themselves at all. They need to be cleaner to dig out this 0-2 hole.
  • Watson has taken a small step. Browns fans were eager to change the quarterback in the second week, as Watson's Watson was so bad. Fortunately, Watson regained at least relatively, led 16 plays and 89 yards touchdown drives, and concluded with one yard with on e-yard touchdown run. Watson started in 2024 for the second time in 2024, and recorded 22/34 and 186 yards in the rain. You may have ended this victory on the last drive. It was not a good content, but it was a step in the right direction for a quarterback, who had to prove that he could do this season's work.

In the second week of Colts in the second week of NFL Research, Packers achieved the first NFL franchise's first 800 wins.

  1. Ayuk is a quiet play again. Pardi won 319 yards and succeeded 28 times out of 36 times, but Brandon Ayuk was basically no factor for two consecutive weeks. He finished the game with four, 43 yards, but it was not an expert that George Kitol, Dobo Samuel, and the running back Jordan Mason were much more important for San Francisco's attack effort. It is also clear. However, in the game that ended with a single point, it was unable to decide on the 49ers, despite the fact that 49ers set an effective drive. He has been pursuing Ayuk's contract status for months, but has not reached any of the officials. Flores hinders 49ers offense. In the first week, 49ers overwhelmed Jets with a point of attack and time of posession, and played against a more tougher opponent in the second week. Vikings's defense coordinator, Brian Flores's defense, makes the life of Block Purdy and 49ers incredibly difficult, throws an intercept with a passed passed pass, and as the game progresses. It seemed to be more and more uncomfortable, and it was a proof of a flores game plan against a young star quarterback. San Francisco won a total of 399 yards, but scored only 17 points. 49ers reached the red zone of Minnesota only four times throughout the afternoon, turned over by down in the first attack, ended 2 to 10 in 3rd down, and caught up to the Wikings offense, rare for offense led by Kyle Shanahan. I couldn't. This is a rare result for offense led by Kyle Shanahan. This was based on Flores, and it was proven that Vikings's defense was quite stubborn through two weeks.
  2. Ayuk is a quiet play again. Pardi won 319 yards and succeeded 28 times out of 36 times, but Brandon Ayuk was basically no factor for two consecutive weeks. 3. Two weeks, two good performances for Darnold. It was fair to question whether former Jets first-round pick Sam Darnold could start in 2024, especially considering how he performed the last time he started in Carolina. That's because for the second week in a row, Darnold did his job and led the Vikings to victory. Darnold threw the ball 17 times for 268 yards and two touchdowns, and had five scrambles for 32 rushing yards and an interception that was part good play by 49ers linebacker Fred Warner and part bad judgment by Darnold. Most importantly, Darnold showed maturity when he didn't flinch under the pressure of a tight game, firing a rocket past Warner and through three 49ers defenders to Jalen Naylor on third-and-8, where he picked up 26. Darnold hasn't played like that since his USC days, but he's doing it more often these days (see: 97-yard touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson). It bodes well for the Vikings.

NFL Research Sam Darnold recorded a 72. 0 completion percentage and 111. 8 passer rating in two 2024 games, both wins against the Vikings. In comparison, Darnold had the lowest completion percentage (59. 7) and passer rating (78. 3) in the NFL from 2018-2023 (among 39 QBs with at least 1, 000 pass attempts).

Next Generation Stats of the Game Justin Jefferson traveled 127. 5 total yards on his 97-yard touchdown reception, the most traveled by a ball carrier for an offensive touchdown in the NGS era (since 2016).

If Walker can't return next week, keep an eye on Shal Bone's struggle.

Eric Edholm harvest: < SPAN> Bucks D has shut down the Lions many times from the end zone.

  1. OT victory Sea Hawks could hardly score in the clutche default, and it was up to the defense to maintain the close battle. At the beginning of the 4Q, Patriots allowed Patriotz to touch down the 20-17 lead, but in the late and overtime match, the defense broke up and secured the victory. When New England had a chance to expand the lead after two driving, Safety Julian Love entered the backfield, blocked his hand, and left three points. After Seattle caught up with the tie, the defense was forced to 3 & out to end the regulation.
  2. The ground game was strong, and Patriotz was not overwhelmed by Patriotz for the second consecutive week, and was led by Ramondrain Stevenson and Antonio Gibson in 2021, and the ground wars were strong in important situations. In the first half, the rashing yard started with only 57 yards, but in the second half won 126 yards. The 4th Q Stevenson's 36 yards 36 yards, TD run, temporarily, Gibson's 45 yard runs defeated almost all yards by tackling multiple tackles. Stevenson finished 81 yards and Gibson finished with 96 yards, but Jacobee Brasset's pass Yard was only 149 yards, causing a complementary lack of pass games caused the defeat.
  3. Nex t-generation stats in the game: Patriotz's cornerback, Christian Gonzales, lined up on the DK Metcarf on Sunday on 36 routes (82 %) out of 44 routes. Harvest of Eric Edholm:

Jets gets an ugly road victory. It wasn't beautiful, but Jets recovered to win his first victory this season. With the offense too stable, the da y-t o-watch defense and special teams have encouraged the victory. Defense's foul was an early problem, and five times more than 17 minutes from the start of the match. The biggest one was a (suspicious) Raffing the Passer call for Jermaine Johnson II, losing Jets's stop and led to Titans's touchdown. Jets seems to have been ready to take two leads, until Will Reebis committed a laterer that would be broken under intense pressure. Jets chased Reebis all the time, sacked four times, and undert pressure at 60 % of his dro p-back. In the middle of the match, he lost his line backer C. J. Mosley (toe), and at the end he was out of the game, and was used to Levi's and used the match. However, Jets's Arbin Charles blocked the punt, stealed the lead, regained the momentum in the 3rd Q, and finally gave Jets a sufficient cushion.

Deep enough to win

Livis has played several plays, but he has to avoid bad play. On the superficial, I liked the second week of Libis, who returned from the miserable fourth quarter of the defeat in Chicago. Livis succeeded in 19 out of the 28 times pass, throwing a highlight reel path to Calbin Ridley, who decided to catch Jets's Chuck Clark and Sauce Gardner. He chose a circle catch with Jets's Chuck Clark and Sauce Gardner. However, during the first half of the two plays, Lisis played like a twist in the second half of the Bears against Bears. Titans was ready to put the ball on the Jets si x-yard line and lead two points, but he tried to carry the ball to the latest in a strong pressure. In the next attack of Lisis, he released a very suspicious path toward the two defense in the 1-10 scene, which was leaded to 7-0. Too bad! When Levi's left more games to him, he seemed no problem. It doesn't mean you can't be a play maker, but Lisis is still learning the delicate lines between the risks in tight games and the return.

Jets might have something going with Allen While Aaron Rodgers and the Jets' passing game remain in pre-heat mode, the ground game kept them afloat on Sunday. But hats off to fourth-round running back Braelon Allen. He caught a short TD pass on a clean design that caught the Titans off guard, and Allen blasted into the end zone for his first NFL score. Allen's second point, his first NFL score, came on a 20-yard sprint to the edge, using his speed to his advantage. Hall and Allen averaged 4. 5 yards per rush (despite being hit multiple times in the backfield) and completed 12 of Rodgers' 30 pass attempts, including nine catches for 75+ yards and two scores. Rodgers was effective when he got the ball quickly, but the passing game has a long way to go. Expect more from the two top backs until the Jets can get their passing rhythm going.

Next Game Stats Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley had four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Jets, including three against Sauce Gardner for 71 yards and a touchdown. Gardner allowed five receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown, setting a career high for yards by a front-runner defender.

Prediction

NFL Research Jets running back Braylon Allen (20 years, 239 days) is the youngest player to score a touchdown in the NFL since Ernie Herber, also 20 years, 239 days old, caught a 15-yard touchdown against the Frankford Yellow Jackets in 1930.

Coral Smith's HarvestThe kicker drama ruled the afternoon. Kicker Austin Cybert made a commission five days ago as a successor to Cade York, who lost two field goals in the first week, and made his commander debut. When the offense continued to stall in the red zone, Cay Belt, who was asked to turn, scored seven field goals (five records up to that point), set a new record of Washington, contributing to all 21 points. 。 The Giants, on the other hand, were suffering from a shortage of kickers over all games because Graham Gano was injured after the opening kic k-off. New York tried to use Panter Jamie Gillan, but he hooked the point after. The Giants tried to PAT twice in subsequent touchdowns, without attempts PAT, but all failed. At the end of the 4Q, the Giants, which were tied, caught up with 4th-4 from the 22 yard line. Instead, the Giants had to aim for the field goal, but failed and set up the last field gold live in the command.

Daniels who rests their feet with emphasis on pass. Dan Quinn Head coach has proclaimed the newcomer Quarterback, who uses a lot of runs in the opening round, to focus on Passer First, and the Sunday game plan reflects the philosophy. It seemed to be there. Daniels succeeded 23 out of 29 passes and won 226 yards. Brian Robinson earned 133 yards, and in Washington for the first time in more than 100 yards since 2021. In this offense, there are still issues in Daniels' protection (five coat sacks and scrambles) and conversions in the red zone. However, it was proven that Quinn was a promising start for offense, along the rookie. < SPAN> Kicker drama dominated the afternoon. The first week of the Giants offense frustration glowed the compatibility between Daniel Jones and the rookie receiver, Malik Neighbers. And on this Sunday, this pair built a connection that accounted for almost the entire New York pass offense. Jones targeted Neighbor's 18 times, recorded 10 receives, 127 yards of receiving yards, and one touchdown. Other Giants' pass catchers were 51 yards, six receives. Neighbors could not bring it to a drive that could bring the Giants to victory on the 4th downslow on the side line, the most important target, but it was enough to remove New York into the game until the end. Three weeks into the NFL season, we've already seen plenty of upsets, comebacks, head-scratchers and electric highlights. New Orleans RB Alvin Kamara was Sunday's star with yards and four TDs from scrimmage, the second time in his eight-year career he'd found. Two games in and the Chargers look remade, a reflection of Harbaugh's old-school football DNA. After Sunday's easy win over the Panthers.
