Are Slot Machine Bonuses Predetermined Know Your Slots
Are Slot Machine Bonuses Predetermined?
One of the common questions about slot machines is whether the bonus is pre-determined or not. If the bonus is pre-determined, then picking and spinning the bonus is just visual eye candy for an already determined outcome, and some people don't like that very much.
Status: Some are fans, others are not.
So let's look at the characteristics that can help you determine if a slot is pre-determined or if it uses an RNG to determine the outcome in real time. Before that, let's rule out one characteristic that has nothing to do with the nature of the bonus you are playing.
When Slots Reboot
What you may notice if a slot machine is reset, or if a power interruption or other problem causes the bonus to recover and you are forced to restart it, is that you will get the same choices and spin results as you had up to the point where it was interrupted. Some people consider this a sign of a pre-determined bonus. In fact, by design, slots keep track of your bonus progress, so that if the machine is reset, it can be restored exactly to the point of the failure.
One reason for this is very simple: if players knew that they could redo the bonus and get better results by forcing the machine to reset due to a power issue or other means, that would be a way to manipulate the machine. Besides this, some slot manufacturers also provide a way to replay the bonus, so that in hand pays and other important scenarios, you can show what happened for marketing purposes. As you can imagine, you don't need to record a lot of information. The game can replay the same RNG for random bonuses as for pre-determined bonuses.
So let's explain the difference between pre-determined and random (RNG-driven) bonuses.
When a Bonus is Predetermined
First of all, slot machines other than Vegas-style (Class III) should be excluded from this exercise because their bonuses are pre-determined.
- Bingo (Class II) Machines: The bingo game determines all payouts, including bonuses, so once the outcome is determined from the game, everything else is just window dressing.
- Historic Horse Racing Machines: Similarly, the payout outcome is determined by the horse races that are selected and played, so the bonuses are already determined because the final payout is already determined.
- VLT/VGM: I first went to Brian Christopher to the first time to New York's lottery (Empire City Casino in New York). We noticed that Quick Hit has a standard picking bonus for determining free spin, but has not displayed any other options. At that time, we realized that the bonus was determined in advance to bring out results from outside the machine due to the nature of the VGM game. Nevertheless, some VLT/VGM machines operate with a random number generator (RNG) considered to be VLT, which may be excluded from this category and bonuses are determined in advance.
The manufacturer is definitely not sharing the details of whether it is a pr e-determined pick, but another is likely to be able to know that the bonus has been decided in advance. Many game designers say that there are some ways here:
- Choosing a bonus with no other consequences: For example, it is common in 88 Fortune s-type machines that choose progressive. In general, if no other options are displayed, it is definitely determined in advance.
When It’s Likely Not Predetermined
There are some areas where bonuses are likely to be played in RNG, just like the actual bonus:
- A game that reveals an uniform option: It is a pair with the above, and if you look at other options, it is likely that it is not a predetermined one. For example, Everi's "Smokin 'Hot Stuff Wicked Wheel". In this game, there are three pickable ones, but as far as the game play on the slot channel is seen, it is a weight progressive pick like other games.
- Free spin bonus In general, the free spin bonus of the RNG drive machine is played using RNG. To confirm this, something like "Bonus Reels in Play" is displayed on the machine. This makes it possible to determine whether the bonus results are different, such as using bonus reels, for example, more progressive and better line hits.
In some jurisdiction areas, if there is a bonus reel, the difference in the background, the difference in the reel symbol (like the letters of a free game in the old quick hit machine bonus), in order to require a visual difference. This is why you often see other visual signs indicating what has happened.
Does it Matter?
Some people find the decided bonus unfair. In reality, RN G-based games use mathematics and payouts to determine the amount paid by the game, including bonuses. The pr e-determined bonus will pay a certain amount over time. As a player, I don't know what really happens to change my timing with an RNG machine.
Therefore, knowing whether to make a advance or not is a truly head exercise and another superstition for slot players to get excited. In the long run, if you have two machines with the same payback, one is a bonus with RNG, and one is a pr e-determined bonus, you will get the same payback in the long term.

How Can You Tell a Picking Bonus is Predetermined?
In the past, I talked about a pr e-determined bonus and a bonus driven by true picks or RNG. However, in today's article, I would like to talk about pick bonuses. Here are some ways to tell if the picking bonus has been determined in advance.
But before that, we want to emphasize that in the long term neither has a true influence on the game. If the bonus is determined in advance, it works in a programmed calculation. If it is a real pick, it is moving based on the programmed calculation and the probability of picking individual items.
In other words, "control" does not necessarily affect lon g-term output. Your "good picking" looks back after the bonus is over, and the probability of winning the next pick or ending the bonus is still in accordance with mathematics.
Are you with me? Let's talk about how to distinguish the difference.
What Else Was There?
One of the general ways that a slot maker tells you that a picking bonus is not a pr e-determined thing is to display unpacked options when the bonus ends. For example, Village People Party has 38 picking bonuses, of which 9 are poop.
You can get a "party saber" that can pick two unchiks before the bonus ends. Also, if you choose a shit with a high magnification, you can skip the shit. However, in the case of 9/38, the probability of choosing a shit is less than 25 %. The more the picking progresses, the greater the bonus, especially the more machoomen you pick, the lower the probability.
Therefore, you can see that the true picking bonus is designed so that the calculation is good, there are rare special dividends, and a small bonus is more frequent.
Regarding progressive, we have a lot of predetermined bonus examples. Dancing drum progressive picking is a representative of the genera l-time picking bonus style of progressive. When you pick it, the progressive amount is displayed on the screen, and the remaining options are not displayed.
In fact, the progressive picking bonus, in contrast to picks like Village People Party, games that picks mult i-pliers and enhancements, and the number of free spins of Quick Hit, the picking bonus is almost universal. Most are decided in advance.
How Many Symbols?
In other words, if the option is not displayed, you can see that the bonus is generally determined in advance. So, are all picking bonuses that show unpacked options are True Picks? I mentioned earlier here how the Smokin Hot Staff Wikid wheel has been decided in advance.
In this case, there are 21 options, there are three, each of which are six progressive three, and three pitch forks to remove the smallest progressive. Considering this scenario, six progressive should be elected with almost the same probability, but the bottom three are a little emphasized because the pitch fork eliminates at least some or all.
In fact, it seems that the major is the most winning in this game. On the cruise I went to earlier this year, Ultra (the second highest progressive) could only be acquired twice in a very active bank with six machines. If it is a real pick and there are only three, that should not be possible. Everi plays a little deceptive game here, violating the standard slot customs that most manufacturers protect over picking. If it's not a true pick, there is no reason to display unpacked options.
Screenshot of Brian Christopher's video.
Therefore, we move into a true pick example of how the calculation is balanced and that is the case for progressive. Scientific Games Rising Panda and its picking bonus. First, pay attention to the dots under each progressive:
You can already see the difference from Smokin 'Hot Stuff Wicked Wheel. Assuming that each is the same number, it is more likely that you need a lower progressive nature because you need more ground than a mini. But here, let's take a look at the completely revealed boards that I saw in the recent Brian Christopher's video (those who want to watch full bonuses will be embedded last).
Screenshot from Brian Christopher's video.
Despite only having 20 dots on the top, the picking board has 32 boxes, broken down as follows:
You can pick up to 17 picks before you guarantee 1 of 4 will be filled. Minis are in the most spaces and take the fewest picks to hit. Minors are behind but have solid odds.
Meanwhile, Grands are the hardest to win but are mathematically possible with any picking bonus. But you'd have to have a really lucky pick to achieve it.
Screenshot from Brian Christopher's video.
Just to show you another board, here's another one from when he hit the mini jackpot. The breakdown of picking options is the same as the majors, but you can see that Brian picked the minis after just 5 picks.
As with many of these things, common sense should prevail. If it's obvious and the odds are the same, but you've been playing the game for a while and haven't hit a big progressive, that should be a sign. If it's clearly weighted towards your pick, as mentioned above, you can be sure it's a true pick bonus.
But remember that whether the bonus is pre-determined or a true pick, over time the game design will bring the payout to where it was intended!

Here's a video from Brian Christopher featuring Rising Panda's progressive pick bonus twice in the space of a few minutes (starting at about 8:30):
How do I allow player agency in situations with predetermined outcomes?
One of the current members of our group joined us a little later than the others. His character's history wasn't very well-developed, so I'm doing a one-off session and playing his history with the group so we can get the full picture. I solicited a brief biography from the player, but the main part of his story is the trial where he was wrongfully convicted. I want to do that trial as part of the one-off session. How can I get the players to actively participate and win but lose to fit the story? Or would it be better to just narrate the trial and not involve the players at all? Note: Only one of the players knows that the outcome of the trial is predetermined.

I sorted: Return to the default \ False accusation. It was a false accusation, so you can use it. In a flashback, make your PC innocent and give plenty of time to prepare for defense. Make the prosecutor completely out. (Fallen?) To the "judge", "I can't let him release, so I declare the defendant and declare [penalties]."
However, it should be warned that those who are angry with such things may be vomiting in the wind with a "defense".

There was a similar thing before two sessions. The game is over soon, so the level is fas t-forwarding. Players had to move about 1, 000 miles in the future. I skipped it and wanted to explain the challenges faced on the way they caused four levels.
Instead, the wizard reminded me that there was a portal emblem linked to the destination. There is no travel time or level. Instead of taking up their levels, or instead of thinking about the artistic reasons to stop the wizards cool, I told them:
Well, I didn't intend to do that. I traveled for months and thought I would justify the level you got. You can make a teleport, but you are responsible for explaining how you got that level.
They first suggested that their destinations were besieged and had to escape from them. We went around the table, each player proposed one level of obstacles, and explained how other players overcome the obstacles. When it was too easy, I complicated the problem. He guided to avoid obstacles that "repel ambush at night".
Anyway, it went well overall. The limit that you have to experience the fou r-level obstacles and get to the destination is well accepted because it was not a restriction on dice but a story. Unless your player is to break the door and shake the dice, I don't think there is a reason for your group that this does not work.

Flashback
All of these events are in the past of the PC. He will have to talk about it someday. Then the play will move on to the trial. This technique is often used in other forms of fiction in the details of the event that knows the final ending.
For example, on the way to work, a PC runs in a hometown town by car. Stop by coffee and pass in front of the ATM. A little more to the workplace, I start to park my car after seeing the flashing light. The newcomer steps on the driver's seat, holds down the accelerator, and shouts like this! I'm a jailbreak prisoner! "" The storm of a screams from my colleagues. "Wait, let me explain! Everything started four years ago. 。
With this, they already know the ending organically. And I know that whatever I do, I can't change it. All you can do is make the story more embodied and empathize with newcomers.

- The "defendant" here means a person who can be tried in a flashback.
Make the group (perhaps "defendant") play the prosecutor and / or witnesses. And it is the party's goal to see the fraud happening. By doing so, the player "wins" by achieving historical results. If the victim really did it, I would like to see that justice is destroyed so that they are acquitted. Friends and families of "victims" and "witnesses" may have some adhesions, and they may be purely innocent and "defendant". If you are playing a game with an alignment system (eg D & amp; d), it is also possible to make the Roflu character sufficient and turn over in the middle of the trial (but still slow). It is.
