John, I pray for your soul. I'm sorry for this.

I interviewed John at DEFCON in 2015. It was an hourly interview, but it was useless at all. The staamame meter was ringing at a loud volume in my head. One of the reasons he talked to me was that I wrote positive about DemonSAW, an encrypted pee r-pear file sharing service, and he was interested in it. But it was the same thing as he was interested in everything, and it was fraud for others to spend money.

The party he later opened at the Hustler Club was really wonderful.

I interviewed Lee over the phone and talked to him several times. He was obviously intelligent, interesting, had a problem with the border between reality and his imagination.

Whatever weird stuff happened in his personal life, we should all take a moment to reflect on the fact that he dedicated his life to tormenting our computers with invasive pre-installed software so bad that we had to wipe our hard drives and reinstall Windows.

Now, the U. S. authorities are determined to make an example of John, who spoke out against corruption within government institutions, by letting him die in prison."[127] Minutes after his death, an image of the letter Q was posted to his Instagram feed (his account was deleted following his death), possibly in reference to the QAnon conspiracy theory. [128][129][130] These theories, based mainly on McAfee's own statements, have been referred to by some journalists as speculative, "bizarre" and "baseless". [128][129][130] The day after his death, his lawyer told reporters that he had been in regular contact with McAfee in prison, but that there had been no signs of suicidal intent. [131] McAfee's widow reaffirmed this position in public for the first time since her husband's death. [132][133]
  • Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee is a Showtime Networks documentary about part of McAfee's life spent in Belize. It began airing in September 2016. [134] It covers the allegations against him of raping his former business partner, Allison Adonizio, and murdering Belizean David Middleton and American expatriate Gregory Fall. [135][136] In a September 8, 2016 interview with Bloomberg's Pim Fox and Kathleen Hayes, he said that these incidents were fabricated and that "Belize is a third-world banana republic, and if you pay the people that Showtime did the interviews for you, you can go there and make whatever story you want." [137][138]
In March 2017, it was reported that Glenn Ficarra and John Requa would direct a film about McAfee, titled King of the Jungle, with a screenplay by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. At various points, Johnny Depp, Michael Keaton and Seth Rogen were reported to have accepted the role, and later walked away from the project. In November 2019, it was reported that Zac Efron would star as journalist Ali Furman. [139][140][141][142]

On May 12, 2017, McAfee and his wife were interviewed by ABC News on 20/20 on Foul's murder. [143]
