Gambling: Who are the betting firms sponsoring your team?
In October 2022, Fulham played against Everton in the Premier League.
Football and gambling are so closely intertwined that it is hard to imagine watching a match without the influence of betting.
Gambling is everywhere in the game, from shirt sponsors and advertising billboards to teams partnering with gambling companies for flutters in stadiums.
Campaigners hope that the government's reform of gambling laws will end this relationship, but this seems unlikely.
It is expected that the Premier League may instead vote to ban gambling companies from the front of the shirts, but allow other forms of advertising to remain.
For the current 2022/23 season, Premier League shirts have more sponsors than any other, with eight in 20 being gambling companies.
As English football's top league has grown into Britain's largest sporting export, companies have become aware of the global advertising power the Premier League has.
They have realized that sponsoring the Premier League can give them access to markets such as Asia, especially China.
The white label system
You may recognize them as sponsors of your team: Dafabet for Bournemouth, Stake. com for Everton, W88 for Fulham.
Leeds United's SBOTOP, Newcastle United's Fun88 and Southampton's Sportsbet. io are also Premier League gambling companies.
But chances are you don't know many people who actually bet with these gambling companies.
All gambling companies except Dafabet are run by the same company, TGP Europe.
TGP Europe holds the licenses and rents out the rights to these gambling companies in what are called white label agreements.

Matt Zarb-Cousin, a recovered gambler who now runs the campaign group Clean Up Gambling, wants more transparency in the industry.
"You need a license to advertise in the UK market and this is a way around this," he tells the BBC.
"Therefore, these companies can basically pay the rental fee to market marketing in the UK and have the opportunity to access the global charm of the Premier League."
According to Zarb-COUSIN, this does not need to apply for a complete license, so it does not need to meet the gambling committee's standards by holding the operator's license.
"In other words, online gambling and gambling advertising can be accessible to the Asian market, which is illegal, and people know the brand and search on TV," he says.
The Gambling Committee spokesman told the BBC: "White label arrangements and sports sponsorships are being considered as part of the government's gambling law 2005.
"We are clarifying that the responsibility for compliance is in the licensed holder and cannot be transferred to any other party. If we neglect to properly manage the third party, the business license is suspended or lost. There is a possibility that regulation measures will be taken.

They said in a statement: "The commercial reality is that for teams outside the top six, such sponsors provide clubs with twice as much money as non-gambling companies."
