Khabib Nurmagomedov defeats Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, announces retirement
Kabib Nurmagomedov kneeled and held his head with both hands. Tears overflowed from his eyes. For the past three months, the burden he had carried was released. The stoic champions have always lost their emotions.
Nurmagomedov, one of the best fighters in the history of mixed martial arts, is a UFC254 main event held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, and fighting with a broken leg and two minutes and 34 seconds. Many people said that it would be the most toughest test for. According to UFC Chairman Dana White, he did it with his legs broken.
This is the first match for Nurumagomedov since his father and head coach, Abdurmanap Nurmagomedov, died in July with COVID-19 complications. Later, Kabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

UFC 300: Justin Gaethje didn’t mean to fight Max Holloway
This won't be the first time Justin Gaethje has stepped into the UFC Octagon against someone he didn't want to face. In 2019, a few months after Holloway fought Poirier, "Highlight" faced off against friend and sometime training partner Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone.Jump to
- "I'm not going to stop it," Gaethje told the crowd after knocking out Cerrone, voicing his anger at the referee for not stopping the fight sooner.
- Since that win, Gaethje has gone 4-2, winning an interim title for his 2020 bout against Tony Ferguson, but losing the unified title to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira. Most recently, he avenged his 2018 loss at UFC 291 last July by knocking out Dustin Poirier with a headbutt in the second round. Stay tuned for more information on the UFC 300 lineup as the fight gets closer.

UFC294 was held last weekend in Abu Dhabi. As with UFC's main events, many celebrities and fighters participated. In the case of UFC's BMF champion Justin Gesge, "Highlights" appeared in the corner of Camal Usman, a friend and training partner.
Former UFC welterweight champion played Camsat Chimaev in just 10 days of notice as a substitute for Paul Costa. Usman showed a shocking performance to the Chechen opponent and lost in the judgment. But just because Usman and his team were there for business did not mean they couldn't enjoy it a little.
Among the celebrities who participated in the UFC294, there was Nerk Boys, a lon g-standing friend of Dana White and a podcast influencer. Someone would have come up with UFC's star, Justin Geache, to get involved in an instant brawl. Or maybe the fighter trained by Trevor Witman was just calm.
In any case, a video of a man who can only understand Geche and the "Nelk Boys guard" is on the net. At first, Gaache seems to be processing things as the fans expect. Until you get caught by a unexpected kimura and get a pinch with a tap.UFC star Justin Gaethje tussles with ‘bodyguard,’ gets tapped at the club
That's not the only 3 4-yea r-old from Arizona who stayed in Abu Dhabi and was at the center of the joke. At one point in the Middle East, Usman found Justin Gesgee sleeping, and drew a penis on his forehead with a mechanical pen, as if anyone was a warm American man.Jump to
- It is unknown at this time what the galleche will do next (except for disinfecting alcohol). In UFC294, the second defense match of Islamic Mahachev was held, and there was a possibility that Geche would challenge Dagestan's champion. However, Charles Oliveira, who was scheduled to play against Mahachev in the game, was missing due to the last injury, so it is likely that Geche would just wait for the turn.
- After entering Fightweek, Justin Gesge and Camal Usman were at the center of the uninteresting news. In the public practice of UFC294, "Nigerian Nightmare" took a takedown with a large double leg. After being beaten by the mat, Usman said to Gesge, "Something has played" right next to the camera shooting the session.
- Usman appeared to slowly get up, but then got off the mat under his own power and was reported to have been padding with Cosmo Alexandre. Both men staunchly denied that there was anything wrong with Usman's knee, but that didn't stop fans from speculating ahead of the event.

The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster for UFC 294. The scheduled title bout between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira was scrapped after the Brazilian suffered an injury during training late in camp. However, that news was quickly followed by the cancellation of the co-main event between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa, who was forced to withdraw after contracting an infection following elbow surgery.
Luckily for fans, UFC came up with two of the best last-minute replacements. In for Oliveira is current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. And for "Volakina"? Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Now, fans are sure to enjoy a thrilling battle at the top of the card, but there was a much more unexpected twist in store.
A recent ESPN expose detailing the behind-the-scenes nature of the new bookings for UFC 294 gave fans a closer look into the promotion's thought process when it came to finding a replacement opponent for the major bout. It was revealed that UFC had considered using Matthaus Gamrot to replace Oliveira, but his "backup" role meant that he would likely be the promotion's last-minute replacement during fight week, rather than the first one they would call if they needed to make a change further into the event.UFC 294: Khamzat Chimaev almost got title fight
The article also states that Justin Gaethje was the first choice to replace the Brazilian, but was too heavy and missed the weigh-in. Costa's camp found that UFC had plenty of time to consider a new booking for Chechen sensation Khamzat Chimaev. The promotion knew that a month after UFC 294, it was likely to have problems.Jump to
- After learning that Costa was suffering from an elbow infection and would need surgery, one of the first people UFC turned to was none other than new champion Sean Strickland.
- According to ESPN sources, Strickland turned down the fight because it had only been about a week since his win over Israel Adesanya. Honestly, it's crazy that UFC even asked him to do it. A fighter who had just won the title would turn around after only a month for his first title defense, and fight a dynamic and dangerous opponent in front of a partisan crowd? Has any champion in the long history of UFC ever taken such a risk?
- Instead, it seems Jared Cannonier will be filling in for Costa. Dana White reportedly recorded a promo announcing the new bout before Cannonier was injured. Enter Karmau Usman.
- Accompanying the news of Usman's opportunity, his manager Ali Abdelaziz reported that a key part of the negotiations for Usman to step up to middleweight and fight Chimaev would be a title bout with Strickland for the winner.
- Strickland and Usman have previously faced off once before, at UFC 210 in 2017. Usman won that bout by unanimous decision.
"I'll never forget that camp," Strickland said of his fight with Usman in a 2020 interview. "I'd never wrestled, I was a black belt in jiu-jitsu, and I was like, 'I'm a jiu-jitsu guy, f**k wrestling. I'm going to stand up and if I get taken down I'm going to tap.' This was four years ago, or whatever. So they brought some high-level wrestlers to the camp, and I was just grinding away the whole camp. Eight weeks. These high-level wrestlers were beating me up, and I was like, 'I'm gonna lose this fight.' And they were beating me in the backroom! If these guys were gonna beat me, he was gonna beat me, so I didn't have a chance."
Usman took the takedown only twice, but overwhelmed 117 to 30 in a clinch work at the cage for 8 minutes out of three rounds. But if Usman was at that time, he would have felt that he was different from his first fighting opponent.
UFC asked Sean Strickland to fight Chimaev
"I think (Strickland) has grown significantly since that match," said Usman in recent interviews. "I think (Strickland) has grown a lot since that match. As he grew up, I have grown, so I think it will be a match that everyone expects. I can't wait.

The PPV in July, the UFC card again is dangerous. The UFC291 was just rock. Elite class MMA action from top to bottom. Justin Gezhe returned to the title container again, Alex Pereira was a promising candidate for the next Light Heavyweight Championship, and Derick Lewis reminded everyone who was one of the UFC's main fighters. There were some lo w-tone games, but there was no way to cut the momentum this night.
So, is there a reason why Gesier can't challenge the ligh t-class gold medal in the next 6-8 months? Who will Pereira fight for a gold medal? And will Delick Lewis r e-contract with UFC?

To answer these questions and all other questions, I intend to use the classic Silvy Battle Battle in UFC a few years ago. In other words, the winners, winners, losers, losers, and talent with similar careers fight each other. Hopefully, I hope that some of these games ideas will actually appear in Octagon from the paper. Well, let's enter the game!
UFC 291: Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje – Fights to make
Jump to
- Justin Geache's monumental performance had a significant impact on the future of the Lightweight Championship. Charles Oliveira had decided to play against Goethe in October, but the next fighter aiming for a ligh t-class belt was not clear. Bennail Daliush was a big story for 2023, but lost to Charles Oliveira in UFC289.
- A big win would bring him back into the spotlight, but there are no such high-profile fights on the horizon. Michael Chandler is set to face Conor McGregor, but who knows if it will happen. And while McGregor is certainly a huge deal, there's nothing to even seriously suggest he'll be fighting anyone anytime soon.
- Fighters like Tsarukyan, Gamrot and Fiziev could be in a position to compete for the belt one day, but that day is not today and is unlikely to be tomorrow. In fact, if the UFC were to look for a contender for the spring of 2024, Justin Gaetze would almost certainly be the candidate. Granted, he's already lost to Charles Oliveira, and that could be a moot point if "The Bronx" manages to reclaim the belt in Abu Dhabi. But that fight was a blast from the first round.
- The winner needs to fight someone. Gaetze is that someone. IMAGO/USA TODAY Network
- If a rematch with Makhachev happens, it could be Alexander Volkanovski. But with Volk having just had surgery and a contender in Ilia Topuria waiting in the wings, it doesn't seem like a surprise to Gaethje. After all, Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira is right around the corner. Justin Guethje should fight the winner.
- This was a big win for Justin Guethje, but it feels like an equally painful setback for Dustin Poirier. "The Diamond" has fought for the lightweight title twice and lost both times (the same thing happened to Guethje, but with each passing year, it seems like another title shot is harder to come by).
It doesn't help that this was a decisive win for Guethje. He draws Poirier into his pocket and counters the pressure with low kicks and hooks. In the second round, Poirier tries to stop Guethje's blitz with a hand parry, but the plan works, forcing Poirier to step up his offensive. But that decision left the Louisiana native wide open to a right head kick that knocked him down and ended the bout one minute into the second round.
Now it's Dustin's turn to take the fight. IMAGO/ZUMA Wire
As long as Makhachev remains the champion, there is a way for Poirier to compete. But he needs to win a couple of other fights first. What did I say about Beneil Dariush above? That there was no high-profile fight for him to return? Now it looks like there is one. Poirier had previously officially accepted the fight, then declined the booking. Poirier vs Dariush should be a top priority for UFC.
An absolutely brutal close fight where Jan Blachowicz seemed to hit a cardiovascular wall midway through, but kept giving it his all. Unfortunately, Alex Pereira was low on gas, and the Brazilian continued to land the cleaner strikes and won a very tough decision.

This win almost guarantees Pereira a shot at the title, but the question is who? Will Jiri Prochazka return soon, or will UFC look to bring back Magomed Ankalaev? My guess is that Prochazka will be able to return early next year, so we'll see Pereira vs. Prochazka then. Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka is a very legitimate light heavyweight title fight, even if this fight falls flat.
Only Derrick Lewis can pull off those kind of moments in MMA. From jump knees to GnPs to post-fight speeches, he pulled off all the iconic TKO/KO moments. Marcos Rogerio de Lima is part of the highlight reel at least until the end of 2023.
After the fight, Lewis revealed that he just finished his contract with UFC. My first reaction was that if he wanted to get out of the contract with UFC, he would. But then I had to look at the options a little more clearly. Realistically, the next "big" fight for Lewis in the Octagon is.... Jaidinho Rozenstruik?
He got beaten by Sergey Pavlovic, beaten by Ciril Gane, Steep Miocic doesn't seem interested in fighting anyone without a belt around his waist, and Tom Aspinall would be foolish to do anything else. He beat Curtis Blaydes, lost to Tai Tuivasa, beat Alexander Volkov, lost to Sergey Spivak. Jairton Almeida is a nightmare opponent. Realistically, there aren't many opportunities for Lewis to thrive within the UFC.
DUSTIN POIRIER
It's time to try again. IMAGO/ZUMA Wire
Outside of that, there's Francis Ngannou, whom Lewis already beat once (in one of the worst fights in UFC history, to be sure, but a win is a win). And Ngannou is guaranteed $2 million. Now a free agent, Lewis is automatically the biggest name on the market, and he has a history to sell. Of course, as long as UFC doesn't use its matching rights, it doesn't seem like a problem for all involved. Derrick Lewis vs. Francis Ngannou 2 is a pretty obvious one.
Tony Ferguson was hanging on to Bobby Green a bit early on. But after the early exchanges, it was pretty much Green's one-way traffic. Especially in the second round, when Ferguson went in to take down the man, but just fell just short. After a few minutes of top control, the momentum was completely in Green's favor. This is the kind of performance Green needs to keep his place at the edge of the lightweight elite... UFC 291 is this Saturday. The headline event is a bout between Dustin Poirier and Justin Guessier for the BMF title, but the headliner fighters didn't have to weigh in at their actual weight.
However, Dustin Poirier and Justin Guethje made the weigh-in at 155 and 156 pounds, respectively, and their matchups in the pay-per-view main event were officially set. Other fighters on the card weren't so lucky.
Michel Pereira at UFC 291. IMAGO/ZUMA WireTop-ranked welterweight Michel Pereira was the toughest fighter on the card on Friday morning. The Brazilian, who was preparing for a high-profile bout against former title contender Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, came in three pounds over the limit.
BOBBY GREEN
Things had gotten so bad that UFC was forced to engage in lengthy negotiations with Thompson over whether to accept a catchweight bout with Pereira.
The 4 0-yea r-old Thompson is likely to be in a different position from other famous talents who confront the struggled partner on the scale. Wonder Boy is already a long career in the UFC elite, and if you win or lose on Friday, you will not fight the title match immediately. Negotiating with UFC and leaving this game on the card seems to be more valuable to get a little plus alpha. Nevertheless, Thompson is not as if it is approaching the end of the career.
"I can't believe it is said that I'm better than retirement," Thompson said in an interview in March. "People who retire seem to be better to retire when sitting on a chair. The body is tattered and painful. Sitting here, in this chair. I feel better than sitting.

- UFC 291: Gaethje vs Poirier 2 fight card
- UFC's history of gimmick promotions is, at best, a mess. Dana White & Co. are perfectly comfortable with labels like The Ultimate Fighter and Dana White's Contender Series, but when it comes to venturing into the stuff of tournaments, fancy walkouts and special events, it feels like the world's biggest MMA company has always had one foot out the door. And what's the point in trying something crazy if no one's invested in the follow-through?
- It's kind of surprising that UFC is trying to bring back the purely symbolic "BMF" title three years after wearing it.
- "Gamebred", who was awarded the title for the first time to Jorge Masvidal after his win over Nate Diaz at UFC 244, then suffered four straight losses. Meanwhile, the BMF belt was left gathering dust on the shelf, and his reputation as the "Bad Motherfucker" slowly faded. But recently, Masvidal announced his retirement from MMA competition, and UFC decided that the rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Guethje was the perfect opportunity to revisit the gimmick.
- On Tuesday's "War Room", White said, "Poirier vs. Gaethje was great. With Masvidal retiring, we started the BMF. You don't know how many fighters want to fight for the BMF title. Everyone wants to fight for the belt. It's fun, it's different, so let's do it again."
- When asked if fans can expect more BMF title fights in the future, White said, "I don't know." "Looking at the first one, those two were the right guys. And those two are the right guys. Whether it happens or not, that's what that fight is.
- "But everybody wants that belt, so what?"
- As for whether the UFC got Masvidal's permission before putting his BMF title back on the line? Dana White could only chuckle.

- UFC Lightweight Top Rankers fought with UFC's official goods, so it's reasonable for the actual champions of the same class to say about the entire idea. But if Maslam Mahachev feels a little that UFC's decision will no longer be in the spotlight, he will not leak it. He has been active in AKA for many years in social media, and gave a simple support message to the two before the battle between Geshie and Poirier.
- Daniel Komie, a former UFC double champion, is not as good as Mahachev, and currently a Talking head of both UFC and ESPN stations, commented on the resurrection of UFC's "Play" Promoverert. If UFC revives this belt in an orthodox battle like Poitarier vs. Gaache, you need to make a ful l-fledged rotation with a view to the title defense battle.
- Is this new champion going to defend the BMF throne? Komie asked a question on his podcast "3 Rounds" (Transcript Via BjPenn. com). I believe that these two players will go up, fight 155, and defend their belts. Because, if you keep winding the belt as it is, the belt must be able to fight. Especially (by class), they are not the players who compete for the throne. "
The UFC's PPV event UFC291 will be held on July 29 in Salt Lake City, UFC291.

UFC 291: Gaethje vs. Poirier 2 fight card
Dustin Poirier vs Justin Gesge 2 is decided in UFC291
- Let's participate in the new Bloody Elbow
- It seems that Jorge Masvidal's BMF champion has ended. In 2019, Gamebread takes TKO (doctor stop) at UFC244 and won a gimmick belt. Despite the fourth consecutive loss, the title of UFC's "Baddest Mother F-Cker" did not leave his hand. At least, until now.
- Following Masvidal's recent retirement, UFC seems to have decided to reclaim the belt and award it anew. The main event of UFC 291 will feature a fight between the best in the lightweight division. In a press release, the promotion announced that Gaethje and Poirier will fight for the "vacant BMF title."
- Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje first faced off at the 2018 UFC on FOX event. Since then, their bouts have been expected to be all-action fights that have wowed fans. Poirier comes into the bout fresh off a third-round submission win over former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. For Poirier, the bout against "The Diamond" will mark his third Octagon appearance since leaving the World Series of Fights.
- Gaethje was knocked out by Eddie Alvarez's knee at UFC 218, suffering his first career loss. But four months later, he lost to Poirier via strikeout in the fourth round after three rounds. It was the final knockout loss of Gaethje's career.
- He has wins over Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson, Donald Cerrone and Edson Barboza, and most recently beat up-and-coming Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286 to maintain his place in the lightweight elite.
- Like Gaethje, Poirier has had plenty of success since his first fight (though both men lost title bouts to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira). Poirier's wins include wins over Eddie Alvarez, Max Holloway and Conor McGregor. The 34-year-old is most recently coming off a third-round submission win over Michael Chandler at UFC 281 last November.
- UFC 291 takes place on July 29 at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. The BMF title bout between Gaethje and Poirier will be the five-round main event of the card, which also features Pereira's 205-pound debut against Alex Pereira and Paulo Costa's return bout against Ikram Aliskerov. Tony Ferguson vs. Bobby Green and Michael Chiesa vs. Kevin Holland have also been announced.

The Fight of Lion Edwards was wonderful. For the game, he seems to have made some fine adjustments to defeat Camal Usman. First of all, Edwards almost avoided the game in the game. The easiest way to hit the head is the easiest to hit the judge. However, it was a really stunning tactic for Edwards, who had been struggling to release his back from the cage for a long time. Rocky, which has no emphasis on releasing his hand in a collapsed pocket, was able to focus on the footwork of circulating, keeping the kick games necessary.
Another adjustment was that every time Usman fired his legs, he was always focusing on attacking one wrist with both hands every time he hit his feet. The best wrestling of Nigeria's nightmare is rarely born from pure and explosive double legs. It is best to drive the opponent into the cage, lock both hands, peel off the opponent's waist from the fence with a great upper body strength, and throw it on the mat. Edwards always controlled one wrist so that the important steps of the Usman takedown process were always broken. As a result, the time to get up at a distance became longer.
KAMARU USMAN
Usually, Edwards should now talk about the clear next challenger in front of him. Originally, it would be Belal Muhammad. But that's not the case as it is now. At a press conference after UFC286, Dana White not only lets Muhammad play Muhammad to play a new chafkato Rachmonov, but also challenges the next gold medal with Corby Cobinton (a surprise backup container at this tournament). I revealed that I would do it. The discussion is here. As others have already pointed out, Kobinton has not beaten a fighter since the 2018 RDA. It is not the choice I choose, but the match between Leon Edwards vs Corbee Corvy Cobinton is likely to be realized. < SPAN> Rion Edwards Fight was wonderful. The big question for Camal Usman was to put more pressure on the game. In the UFC278, Usman had appeared many times ago, but the amount was not the game between Gilbert Berns, Colby Cobinton and Tyrone Woodley. The player trained by Treva Witman seemed to have had Edwards in the previous match, lacking stable attack power. In particular, in the fifth round, 16 strikes were released in four minutes, and KOs were brutal. Was a restart on the sea surface a chance to step on the accelerator for Usman? different.
GUNNAR NELSON
Since Usman tried to close the distance with the offensive hands, Edwards had enough time to kick. The result is a reasonable defeat. Even me who drove this game, the 3/5 round saw Edwards win.
So, for the time being, now that the title is out of reach, who needs to fight with Usman? Chimaev is promoted, and Muhammad seems to play Rachmonov. There is one remaining option. Usman's background is clearly missing: Steven, Wonder Boy, Thompson. Thompson has won Kevin Holland, and UFC should still be able to hit it while the iron is still surprisingly hot. The battle between Thompson vs. Usman will be a focus on the former king.
Rafael Fijiev seemed to have done a preliminary investigation and attacked the body hard. Take a distance and shoot a large amount of kicks, push up the knee from the inside, and when you are here, drop your hips and jump into your pocket. However, Geache stopped Attaman's momentum with a stunning adjustment, and at the end of the game.
The first adjustment is to adjust the upper to the body that jumps into the Physiev's pocket. The other was to fight behind the jab. The first step was convinced that Fijiev would be cautious about the pressing and pressing. The second is to take Geje's punch. As a result, if Geshie was aiming for the title again, he won a great victory that would have to be obtained. < SPAN> For Camal Usman, the big question in this game was whether we could put more pressure. Highlights warned that he might not have many fights left, so he can't afford to waste them. Unfortunately, to get there, he'll have to go through a couple of guys who already have his number: Dustin Poirier or Charles Oliveira. If Gaethje is really lucky, even a Beneil Dariush defeating Oliveira won't get him a shot at the title. If not, Poirier vs Gaethje 2 is the only option.
UFC FIGHTPASS EARLY PRELIMS | 1PM/10AM ETPT (0 CARES)
Bryan Barberena is interesting, but this is booked for Gunnar Nelson. The Icelandic fighter applied pressure early, got a takedown, and once Barberena was on the mat, it was only a matter of time. He then went for an armbar, and the match ended.

Overall stats from UFC Fight Island 1 in July, 2020, through UFC Vegas 71 in Mar., 2023:
Nelson is currently more focused on his coaching career than a full-time fighter, so we may not see him anytime soon. However, if he does return, we could see him rebooked against Muslim Salikhov, the winner of Holland/Ponzinibbio, or Daniel Rodriguez. I would also like to see him face Max Griffin, Michel Pereira, or Jack Della Maddalena. There are plenty of options. Given that he is unlikely to return to the cage anytime soon, we will wait for the winner of Holland vs Ponzinibbio. Holland vs Nelson would be interesting, and a Ponzinibbio rematch would be a bit of a stretch.

2022 Stats:
After the recent PPV extravaganza of UFC 285, UFC 286 looks just a little shabby in comparison. The main event, Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards, was great, as was the co-main, Justin Guethje vs. Rafael Fiziev. From then on, it's a great event with solid bookings, maybe just a little bit less edge. Still, fans should be excited.
2021 Stats:
As Bloody Elbow leaves the VOX Network, we've officially launched the Vivisection/6th Round Patreon for fans who support our podcasting. Both shows will continue to be free on BE, SoundCloud, YouTube and other podcasting apps. But Patreon will give fans exclusive access to MMA Depressed-us going forward.
