Famous as the burial place of the heroes of the Alamo, San Fernando Cathedral is one of the oldest cathedrals in America and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's our number 5. The original church walls, built in 1750 by settlers from the Canary Islands, are now the sanctuary of the cathedral. The cathedral is San Antonio's main plaza and is the setting for one of San Antonio's most visually stunning attractions, "San Antonio the Saga," so it's best to visit at night. Offered free of charge every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening, the art installation was created by video "painter" Xavier de Richemont, a 24-minute video with choreographed music and narration projected onto the side of San Fernando Cathedral. The 7, 000-square-meter projection brings to light the story of San Antonio through a stunning display of colorful images and ambient sound. Bring your own popcorn! Less than 30 minutes from San Antonio is Natural Bridge Caverns, the largest commercial cave in Texas. This spectacular cavern is a mix of cavernous rock-walled chambers, dark narrow passages and interesting rock formations that have been formed over thousands of years. There are 2 types of cave tours, each lasting about 70 minutes. For more thrills, try the Canopy Challenge, which features zip lines, platforms and ladders that reach 60 feet above the ground. Kids can enjoy Sky Tykes, a ropes course for small children and toddlers. Another above-ground option at the cave is a gem and fossil mining experience, where children and adults of all ages can learn how miners searched for gold. Souvenirs, food and freshly baked fudge are also available for purchase on-site.

Open 24 hours, this unique Mexican restaurant is elaborately decorated with colored lights and fiesta flags, which wave to the tunes of musicians strolling through the store, creating a festive atmosphere.
Need a quiet place to relax? The Japanese Tea Garden is a beautiful hideaway from the hustle and bustle of downtown San Antonio, and was voted #8. Formerly a stone quarry, the site has been transformed into a tranquil garden with indigenous East Asian plants, koi ponds, waterfalls, and beautiful stone pavilions. Stone walkways meander through the gardens. It's just a 10-minute drive from the River Walk. You can easily combine a visit to the Tea Garden with other activities on our list.

From April 20 to 30 of this month, celebrate Fiesta Sun Antonio with more than 2. 5 million people from all over the world! Colorful and dynamic events began in 1891 as a parade to praise the hero of Alamo and Sun Hashint.
The first flower battle
Until 1890, San Antonio, Texas, flourished as a center of trade with a population of 38, 000. In 1891, the citizen group decided to hold a flower battle in honor of Alamo and the hero of the Battle of San Hashinte. In the first parade, a carriage, a bicycle decorated with fresh flowers, and a float with children dressed as flowers appeared. The Bernap rifle representing the army, and the participants threw flowers to each other. Immediately, the "Flowers Battle" gained popularity of the audience, and in several years, the number of events held in April 21 or nearby, such as carnival, ball, and "royal family", has increased, and the Fiesta tradition has been made. I was born. Fiesta's tradition continues from early events, including street dance, children's festival, trading display parade, and orphans. Since then, it has been held every year, except in 1918 during World War I and 1942 to 1945 during World War II.
The Knights of Alamo and the Fiesta royal family
In 1909, 18 years after the first flower battle, John Callington established Alamo Knights, one of the oldest organizations in Fiesta. The members gather once a year and choose the queen of the following year and the court. The Queen's court includes one princess, 12 Duke in the town, and 12 Duke of the town. The selected princesses will be the royal family in the major parade of Fiesta. Claire Doriskol, a supporter of Alamo, is the only person who served as a queen of Fiesta for three years in 1904, 1905, and 1906. Since then, the Queen's term has been limited to one year. If you participate, you will notice that the royal family is dressed up, and some queen gowns have been rated as worth near $ 10, 000. The members of the Knights have reserved such financial details between their family and dressmakers.
Regarding the king, the royal family of Fiesta in the early days include King Cotton, King Seramat (reverse the spelling of tamares), King Omara (reverse the spelling of Alamo), and King Antonio. There were years without King's name. In 1926, John Callington formed the Texas Cavaliers for the purpose of selecting King Antonio. The first King of Cavaliers was Stirling Bark, crowning in 1927 as King Antonio II.
For many years, King Antonio appeared on airplanes, trains, and cars without a fixed habit for arriving in Fiesta officially. In 1941, when Works Progress Adminolation completed the renovation of the San Antonio River, the Cavaliers decided to introduce the king in the river parade. Today, the River Parade is one of the few events in the United States where floats really float. Approximately 250, 000 people line up on the riverbank to enjoy this event.
The second king who reigned in Fiesta was El Ray Feo, the "ugly king". The monarch came from the medieval tradition, and the farmers elected one of them as the king of the day. The first Ray Feo was crowned in 1947, but did not become a Fiesta official event until 1980. The Ray Feo scholarships are now sponsors of El Ray Feo, and candidates are raising funds for students to enter university. It is worth noting that the birth of two King Fiesta has become a bridge between Fiesta's major culture. The two kings not only appear in Fiesta events, but also visit hospitals, schools and nursing homes.
Pilgrimage, parade, and unforgettable night
As part of Fiesta's commemorative event, the daughters of the Republic of Texas have been pilgrimage to Alamo's heroes and Texas since 1925. A queue dedicated to the solemn wool wheels consisting of historical organizations, civil organizations, patriot groups, military organizations, and school groups walk quietly to Alamo. At the same time, the announcer reads the names of those who protected Alamo from the Alamo wall. The ceremony is concluded with a simple memorial ceremony.
The Fiesta Franbo parade, scheduled for April 29, began in 1948. As the parade derived from the word "Frambo", which means candlesticks and tags in French, four brigades have a fiv e-foot pole and marched between other parade battalions. Today, the boy scouts carry a safety lighting lantern, and all floats in Franbow Parade are lit.
In 1948, "A Night In Old San Antonio" (commonly known as NIOSA), hosted by the San Antonio Nature Conservation Association, joined Fiesta. What is that intention? The purpose is to save San Antonio buildings, raise awareness and collect funds to maintain the cultural heritage of the city. Approximately 16, 000 volunteers participate in NIOSA every year.
Fiesta today, with the cooperation of 75, 000 volunteers and 100 local no n-profit organizations, the military's cooperation, 100, including music, food, sports, pageant, patriotism, exhibition, parade, Fiesta Royalty, etc. It has grown before the above events are characterized. In the past Fiesta, Regatta, Synchronized Swimming, Polo competition, hot air balloon racing, rifles, and bowling competitions were held. This year, in addition to such events, some traditional Fiesta events will increase. San Antonio's headline and celebrity show "Conations", "St. Merry's Oyster Bake", a dish that contains 100, 000 oysters and live music at St. Mary's University Campus for two days, and the top teams in the United States The invitation tournament "Women's Fiesta Soccer Tournament", JBSA-Rackland Fiesta Military Parade, 5kg Run and Parade "Fiesta Escharp", and Pouch Parade.
Of course, one of the events you can't miss is the battle of flowers because history is repeated. The current flower match battle is almost the same as the first flower match battle introduced in 1890. What is unique is the only one in Japan, which is completely planned and directed by women, and is the second largest after the annual tournament of Rose Parade in California.

The entire defenders, including legendary figures Davy Crockett and James Bowie, were killed in a battle that was estimated to last only 20 minutes. The fourth Saturday of July each year marks National Cowboy Day, a day to honor America's most beloved historical figures. One of America's most iconic stereotypes, the image and persona of the cowboy has been used on everything from cigarettes to boots to ten-gallon hats to Hollywood westerns. In fact, it was the westerns that cemented the image of the cowboy in the public's mind, and in particular their love and respect for their land and country.
Celebrate the day and honor this American hero with cowpoke games, live music, kids' crafts, museum tours, food trucks and more at Briscoe Western Art Museum on July 27. Also check out Briscoe's summer art exhibit, "Into a New West," featuring contemporary Western art from the 1960s to the present. The exhibit program through September 1 includes a re-screening of "Lonely Are the Brave," screenwriter Dalton Trumbo's 1962 film that celebrates rugged individualism and the decline of freedom in modern society.
