What do the Matrix, GIFs, and Edgar Degas have in common? Believe it or not, horses. Even after locomotives and the "horseless carriage" virtually replaced horses in transportation, our equine friends played a central role in some of the most important technological advances of the 20th century. This innovation, invented by photographer Eadweard Muybridge, is widely known as a source of inspiration for modern animation and cinematography.
Horse racing and photography shared another important moment in 1936, when Arthur Cuprion Sr. of Cuprion Camera in Louisville, Kentucky, developed the first photo-finish camera. The photo-finish camera was a pivotal step towards accuracy and fairness in American horse racing. Instead of strategically placed stewards watching a close race, the photo-finish camera could clearly prove who won by a nose.

After watching the video, think about this sentence: Today, we know that solar eclipse is caused by the orbit between the earth and the moon. However, the ancient culture had no scientific knowledge of solar eclipse phenomena. So they talked about the story they wanted to explain what they were watching. In ancient China, it was explained that dragon had devastated the sun. In the American indigenous culture, it was believed that a bear had quarreled with the sun and torn off the sun. After watching the Derby Academy, use the information that appeared in the episode to write your own legend to explain your solar eclipse.

Picking a champion thoroughbred at a public auction or private sale is not an easy task. When considering a purchase, buyers will likely look at the pedigree, i. e., documented ancestors. Knowing the performance of a thoroughbred stallion and mare (father and mother) can answer important questions. Does the thoroughbred prefer dirt or turf? Does the horse prefer short or long distances? What kind of temperament does the horse have? If a buyer can clearly answer these questions about a stallion or broodmare, it may be an indication of what the progeny will prefer.
Buyers also consider conformation when aiming for the best performance. Conformation refers to a horse's body shape or bone structure, and is an indicator of the horse's potential for success on the racetrack. For example, is the thoroughbred's back too long or too short? Does it have abnormal legs, bent tendons, or similar diseases? Does the thoroughbred have a narrow chest, which reduces lung capacity by not expanding? If you answer "yes" to any of these, your thoroughbred may not be the best athlete.
From the Archive:
But sound pedigree evaluations and good conformation are no guarantee of success. Today's virtual museum features thoroughbreds that fell short in these categories and were sold for cheap. But they became great champions in the sport.
WWE announced Monday that its signature pay-per-view event, WrestleMania, will take place without spectators on April 5 at its training center in Florida. The event typically sells out stadiums with tens of thousands of spectators.
Want to buy a thoroughbred racehorse and win the Kentucky Derby? Great! Time to get out your checkbook! As you can see, it doesn't take a perfect check or a glorious pedigree to win the Kentucky Derby. Sometimes it's what's between the ears and the individual competitive drive, or heart, that each horse possesses that overcomes perceived shortcomings. Here are some of the greatest "steals" in Derby history.

Sometimes you have to be a sucker. But if you're a three-year-old thoroughbred, you don't want that to happen on the first Saturday in May. The Kentucky Derby Museum is a place to celebrate the traditions, stories, and winners of this great race. But there are also many great thoroughbreds who lost the Derby but went on to have illustrious racing careers.

The life of a thoroughbred trainer can be difficult and unpredictable. It's a job that requires passion, tenacity, and intuition. A trainer's first priority is to discover what motivation each individual horse needs to perform at their best on the racetrack. All trainers want their horses to have a fire to win and an immeasurable quality: heart. Trainers usually work from early morning to late evening, seven days a week, in one place in the winter and another in the summer. Aspiring trainers must have both the talent and the determination to weather the ups and downs of this challenging career. Many would say that being a trainer is a lifestyle, not a job.
Team Member Spotlight:
The trainer must not only handle horses but also to manage people. Grooming, exercise riders, hot walkers and assistant trainers are all under the trainer. He also adjusts the schedule with veterinarians and hoof. Heavy health and success, staff management, accountability to the owner, and communication with the owner. Trainingor's reputation and positive reviews are the key to acquiring horses in this fierce field of competition, and it is a tough job to make a track record.

In 2006, Churchol Downs began a tradition of giving a champion ring to the horse owner, trainer, and jockeys of the horse who won Kentucky Derby. The idea of this ring is derived from similar jewelry for other major sporting events, such as the NFL Super Bowl. Wayne has four rings that symbolize each horse that won Kentucky Derby. At the top of the ring, a diamon d-made horseshoe and a Kentucky derby gold cup are used. On one side of each ring, a twin spire, a symbol of Church Lowns, is drawn.

The Infield of Church Lowns is as famous as the race itself. Colorful personality, costumes, hats, and costumes are every year. Infield seats are the cheapest way to watch the derby, and a 6 0-dollar general admission ticket is enough. The spectators of Uchibaba have been swollen to about 80, 000, and on the day of Derby, it is the third largest city in Kentucky. However, most of them do not see raw horses from the infield seats on the day of the derby. With the addition of the world's largest 4K television in 2014, at least they can see the race on a large board. Jumbotron is larger than three NBA basketball coats!
Now, moving to the infield seat has become much easier. The main pedestrian tunnel was constructed in 1937 to respond to the increase in infield spectators. Before the tunnel was formed, the audience had to run a truck between the races and cross! Currently, there are a total of three tunnels that can access infield.
