Nevada gaming regulators continuing investigation of media mogul Barry Diller
Posted: April 6, 2022 Author: Cory - Others
Nevada's gaming regulatory authorities continue to investigate the license of the billionaire media king Bary Diller, who has been investigating insider transactions by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Justice Ministry of Justice.
The problem was not on the agenda of the monthly meeting on Wednesday, and Brin Gibson did not bring this issue to adjust the schedule.
At a meeting in March 2, the Gaming Management Committee was held on March 2 for the MGM Resorts International Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Committee Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Committee. In consideration of the survey that occurred after the recommendation of acquiring the license, the license application procedure for the Diller IAC was suspended.
On March 17, Triati was postponed to a further investigation on the validity of approval by the Nevada Gaming Management Committee (Nevada Gaming Management Committee), and the issue was taken again at the committee meeting on April 21. He said that he was decided.
"We are still considering it," said Michael Rothon, a senior economic analyst, a spokesman of the committee. We are still considering Michael Rothon, a senior economic analyst, a spokesman for the committee.
The Wall Street Journal is Microsoft Microsoft, Alex von Fastenberg, Alex von Fostenberg, a child of Diller, and Diller. A few days before the acquisition of $ 68. 7 billion, he reported that he had acquired a large number of Activision Blizzard shares. In the news of this transaction, the stock price of the active vision rose.
Diller later said that he had denied suspicion of insider transactions, and acted because he thought that there was no prior knowledge and that it was underestimated that the unlisted or acquisition was underestimated. He says this was a lucky bet.
"It's credible to think that you did that three days before Microsoft and Activision's announcement," Diller issued a statement on CNBC.
Last week, the Journal reported that Bobby Cotic and Von Fastenberg, the highest executive of video game companies, had met at least once. On January 14, a week later, the three purchased an option to buy an active vision stock for $ 40 per share. Microsoft moved to acquire an active vision stock for $ 95.
"We didn't know the transaction at all, and if we knew it would have lacked credibility," said Diller last week. "It's hard to imagine that a sophisticated professional Kotik talked about this transaction with the briefs with the and Mrs. Fontenberg in a social place.
The journal reported that three people had about $ 59 million in optional transactions. The Ministry of Justice has conducted a criminal survey to examine whether or not there is a violation of the Insider Transactions Law, and SEC is conducting a civil survey.

America’s casinos off to their fastest two-month start ever
Posted: April 5, 2022 By: Cory - Other
ATLANTIC CITY, N. J. (AP) - America's commercial casinos are off to their best start in the past two months in the latest sign that the industry is recovering as it enters its third year since the coronavirus pandemic began.
According to the numbers announced on Tuesdays by American Gaming Association, a national industry group in the gambling industry, the income from casino games, sports betting, and internet gambling in January and February reached $ 8. 92 billion. It increased by more than 19 % from the previous time recorded in 2020.
The income of fac e-t o-face slots and table games, the core of the gambling industry, was $ 7. 18 billion in the first two months of 2022, increasing by less than $ 7. 1 billion in 2020.
This number does not include a tribal management casino, and many have experienced a similar increase.
"This record of the new year shows that the industry's recovery momentum has continued for 2022," said Bill Miller Chairman and CEO. "I don't know yet whether it will be on a record high last year, but it's clear that Americans continue to choose gambling as the first entertainment."
Only five states are delayed to the gambling income pace in early 2020: Kansas (-11. 7 %), Louisiana (-2. 3 %), New Mexico (-6. 4 %), Oklahoma (-5. 2) %), Lord Island (-13. 3 %).
The association states that the two casinos in Lord Island said that "Encore Boston Harbor opened in June 2019 and the New England competitive environment has intensified", and Cansus in Kansas "is the largest in the state. A new tribal gaming facility has been established near a commercial casino, and we continue to feel the intensity of competition. "
According to the Las Vegas Tourism Bureau (Las Vegas Convenition and Visitors Authority), Las Vegas visited 21. 5 % from February 2020, but increased by nearly 70 % yea r-o n-year.
The total number of casinos from lan d-based slot machines and table games has increased in 14 of the 25 states up to the first two months in 2022, compared to 2020.
Internet gambling income in Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia reached $ 373. 4 million in February, decreasing 6. 5 % from the January record, but increased by 46. 1 % yea r-o n-year. did.
Income, which combines Internet gambling and sports betting, accounted for less than 16 % of commercial casino revenues in February, a lo w-share income since August 2021.
Last year, it gained a record $ 53 billion in the US casino industry. Last year, it gained nearly $ 45 billion from a fac e-t o-face gambler at a casino, increasing 6. 6 % from 2019.

Navajo Nation eases COVID restrictions; mask mandate remains
Posted: April 5, 2022 By: Cory - Other
WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) - The Navajo Nation on Tuesday eased coronavirus pandemic restrictions, allowing more people to attend businesses, including casinos, and social and other gatherings.
Tribal casinos, restaurants, movie theaters, campgrounds, museums, theaters and other businesses can now open at 75% capacity, up from 50% capacity that has been in place since last summer. Businesses must submit plans to the tribe's economic development department before implementing the new restrictions.
Traditional ceremonies, churches, youth programs, training events and holiday gatherings can now have 25 people in person, up from 15.
Outdoor events, such as races, walks and bike rides, are now limited to 50 people.
Schools are also limiting capacity for non-instructional gatherings, such as orientations, and sporting events. Indoor arenas can be open at 50% of their maximum capacity, and outdoor seating areas can be open at 75%.
The Navajo Nation, the largest reservation in the U. S. at 27, 000 square miles (69, 930 square kilometers), has been more cautious about the pandemic than surrounding states. There are no mask mandates in Utah, New Mexico or Arizona, and businesses there have been fully reopened for months.
Masks remain mandatory in public places on the reservation, and tribal leaders reemphasized safety measures at home.
Tribal Chairman Jonathan Nez said the new guidelines are based on a consistent decline in daily cases since coronavirus cases spiked in January after the holidays. A spike in deaths reported by the Navajo Nation in late January was due to a delay in reporting and collating data, tribal spokesman Jared Touchen said.
The tribe reported one new confirmed coronavirus case on Tuesday, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 53, 089. Three more deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the total to 1, 737. Copyright 2022 The Associated Press.

Colorado: Black Hawk’s casino market draws analyst rave
"Forget the crypto," Barry Jonas said of the casino market in Blackhawk, Colorado. The Truist Securities analyst was finishing up an investor tour of local casinos operated primarily by Monarch Casinos, Penn National Gaming, Caesars Entertainment and Bally's Corp. Smaller Monarch was the biggest name in Jonas' view, with a "buy" recommendation, due to a recent expansion of its Blackhawk facility.
The former Riviera Blackhawk, which was acquired by Monarch for $ 76 million in 2012, has recently been renovated $ 480 million, built a 2 3-story luxury hotel tower. Sports books, 9-story parking lots, and new dining options have been added. Monarch is 1, 100 on e-alms banded, dominating 30 % of slot inventory.
Despite the confusion due to construction, Monarch market share continued to grow to 23 %. Regarding the new Monarch Blackhawk, Jonas said, "This facility has been designed to attract more valuable gamblers in the Las Vega s-style experience, and has some success. Is written. The increase in the Las Vega s-style atmosphere is the addition of poker and ken, with Colorado's new n o-limit betting permit (the upper limit of the bet is $ 100). These are not high roller games, but Monarch executives told Jonas that VIP customers will continue to increase.
According to Monarch's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), "Ideally, the company has continued to evaluate strategic / M & A opportunities, and it is ideal to acquire unprofitable properties in promising markets in a stable regulatory environment. "Quoted Jonas's words. Unlike the REIT mania rivals, Farrahi prefers to own a real estate that accompanies the game revenue. He is considering special dividends to shareholders, and the aforementioned acquisition is to keep leverage less than 5 times the cash flow.
Farahee's rivals in Black Hawk are also busy. Bally's acquired Golden Gates, Golden Galchi and Maldigra casinos two years ago for $ 51 million. As a result, Bally has obtained 565 slots, 31 table games, and weapons of sportsbooks for each brand of Bally, Draft Kings, and Funduel. Jonas pointed out that BALLY'S's cash flow is modest, saying, "This property seems to have been negative from the expansion (monarch's)." BALLY also operates the only racetrack in Aurora, Colorado (30 miles west of Denver), in addition to online sports betting.
Ballyz is trying to give the first stop play to Monarch and Caesters, taking advantage of the central nature of the facility, and is trying to become a player's second option. The main rivals in this regard are the Lodge owned by Jacobs Entertainment, far exceeding the marketing and maintenance. BALLY'S wrote that "BLACK HAWK's market share has declined because of the number of large capitals besides the renovation of the sports book," he wrote, and Jonas wrote and 52 new slots since mi d-February. The machine was installed and some improvements were seen. The company believes that it can double the cash flow, but it is seen as a trajectory three years later.
Jonas arrived in Blackhawk immediately after the announcement of Caesers to rebrands Isle Blackhawk into a horseshoe. (Caesers deploys 1, 190 slots and 40 tables, Horseshoe has a buffet into a sportsbook, and has more than 400 hotel room rooms. Since 2017, the annual cash flow has been improved from $ 35 million to $ 60 million. He also benefits from overflow traffic from the adjacent Monarch.
Jonas reported that the newly improved Monarch was not very useful on the distant Ameristar Blackhawk. Penn has significantly reduced the slot floor from 1, 400 to the current 950, acquiring 25 % of market stock. It also has a 38 table and a 536 hotel room and a bath tool sportsbook. If cashless gambling is legalized in Colorado, perhaps in the latter half of this year, Pen would want to go to the market in the Everi solution.
Blackhawk is a major market for Gamblers from Denver, and is a very healthy feeder market that continues to grow as a gambling hub. Denver's population is more than 3 million, and the median household income is 30 % higher than the national average, and the airport in Denver is one of the largest air routes to Las Vegas, so it tends to be highly gambling. " Jonas points out.
In some respect, Black Hawk surpasses Macau. With the expansion of monarch, this market currently has more than 1, 450 hotels, but since multiple operators are almost every weekend, we believe that this market has not been sufficiently available. There is.
Part of the victory equation is a larg e-scale trancis of young players who have been seen for the first time during pandemics and proved durability. They also have a strong tendency to prefer sports betting and table games in AmericaStar, which may explain the facility's slo t-inventory reduction. The Convention Business has been improving, although there are still roads before reaching the level of 2019.
Operators, on the other hand, are focusing on expanding profit margins and reducing costs. Pens and Caesters buffets were sacrificed to cost reduction, but Monarch is different. Operators are concerned about the current inflation. "Gambling is historically resistant to rising gasoline prices, and black hawk, about an hour drive from Denver, is no exception," said Jonas.
The closer challenges are the labor, or the lack of labor. "This has continued since COVID, and the wage inflation pressure is a reality. Despite the fact that wages are higher than the average of the national gaming, market SMEs gather human resources. I'm having a hard time, "says Jonas. In Colorado, wages must be described in recruiting ads, so funding companies with financial strength are advantageous. Monarch is currently the highest gaming employer in the town, but it is difficult to hire intermediate managers. Jonas added that operators are investing in technology to reduce their dependence on human resources, and has been slimming the management model to make the most of the employed resources. "
Since 60 % of black hawk players use at least two casinos in one visit, the promotion environment was rational and any advertising cost was useful. If operators can achieve the goal of changing da y-trip customers into vacation customers, it should be further improved. For Chamonix, which is being built by Full House Resorts in Krupuru Creek, it is mainly a 2-hour distance from Krprad Creek, mainly the problem of distance (Colorado Springs is a ful l-house feed market). The consensus is not a threat or a threat.
Igaming, which could be voted in the 2024 election, did not agree. Pen, who sees online sports betting as attracting customers to the America, and "I think it will be a plus for effective marketing due to increased cros s-selling and increased customer data" (Jonas). I'm doing it. Monarch of Monarch was an opposition, and I-Gaming was "harmful." (Monarch does not show a big presence in online).

Light & Wonder completes sale of Scientific Games lottery unit
The company that was previously known as Scientific Games has become Light & Wonder, but it has not disappeared. The Light & Wonder lottery category was sold to the Brookfield Business Partners under the name and logo, and the transaction was completed yesterday. "With this transaction, Scientific Games can concentrate on providing games, services and technology in the sports betting market managed by the world's lottery and lotteries," Brookfield says.
Scientific was founded in 49 years, sold to Brookfield for $ 5. 8 billion in late October last year, and the lottery category was 12 times the cash flow. Brookfield was established in 1899 and manages $ 690 billion asset portfolio. The acquisition of Scientific has cleared regulated hurdles in all jurisdictions, except for Austria, which has been approved by Brookfield this June.
"The Brookfield has a lon g-term perspective, provides flexibility and mobility in the scientific games, and evolves the customers and its beneficiaries. In order to meet the needs, it is necessary to expand our deep product portfolio, "he said. "This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for scientific Games, and it is a company to build a recorded growth achieved in 2021 in all parts of the lottery business." It was really useful for Light & Wonder, but eventually it was considered a core mission of the company to make games for casinos and the Internet.

Recapping the Canadian Gaming Summit
Check out the reports of colleagues who were crowded in the Canadian Gaming Summit packed panel, remember many conversations exchanged on the first and second floors of the Metro Toronto Convention Center, and checked notes. , I had the opportunity to transcribe an interview, so I will give a little impression:
Mitch Davidson, the chief staff of Igaming, participated in the Gaming News Canada Show provided by OSLER, HOSKIN & AMP. I had a conversation. Davidson: "When the government made a decision to legalize this market, he talked about regulated games and responsible gambling standards, but it was not always talked about the economic effects for the state. It is an exciting part of initiative. "
- The report showed the first ten years of the Ontario regulatory market, but Davidson plans to provide the latest reports reflecting the second year next year. He said. Also, after receiving some inquiries, we include this screenshot from the report to clarify the part of the report in the report (and to be humble, to overlook the entire report. I recommend taking time):
Every time I heard the word "Alberta" at the summit last week, one Tennie would have been able to (almost) the gasoline fee to return home to Lake Huron on Thursday evening. The Daniel Smith's UCP administration believes that the regulatory industry, which has jurisdiction over the western Canada, will give you more than desired.

In the panel discussion, the Alcohol and Gaming Committee (Alcohol and Gaming of ONTARIO) has been discussed on the change of advertising standards involved in athletes and other celebrities, and AGCO's Tom Mangam CEO will soon retire. "Our decision on this matter is not a few months, but a few weeks ahead."
- Appearing on the Gaming News Canada Show on Thursday afternoon, Canadian Gaming Association big boss Paul Burns revealed that the association is asking the AGCO to bring together operators, broadcasters, leagues and other stakeholders to find common ground on the advertising issue. "We want the AGCO to create a working group and identify areas where we want to find solutions," he said.

- As the operator of the Toronto conference, I'll give the Tampa Bay Rays' hat to the SBC's maiden voyage, which has been smooth sailing in almost every respect (well, they're the best team in baseball right now and we love being the undercard). The three-day summit attracted nearly 2, 000 attendees, double the number from the year before last, and the SBC aims to increase attendance by another 700-1, 000 in 2024. Panel discussions filled the conference rooms over the three days, bringing together some of the biggest names in the sports betting and gaming industry. Same place, same day, new time on LinkedIn Audio
Starting tomorrow, we will be changing the airtime of the Gaming News Canada Show, hosted by Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt LLP, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Eastern Time. A twist in the PointsBet USA purchase plot
News broke on Friday that DraftKings would bid $195 million (American Bucks) for PointsBet USA. After deliberating over the weekend, the board of directors of Australia-based PointsBet told investors on Monday that it plans to speak with the latest bidder for its business (around the same time Wyndham Clark joined in to win the U. S. Open men's title).
SBC's Charlie Horner provided some insight into DraftKings' motivations in trying to block Fanatics' bid to buy PointsBet's U. S. operations. Legal Sports Report's Adam Candide broke down what it would take for the two companies to acquire PB USA. And we got some insight from Brad Allen's Twitter feed into the appeal of DraftKings picking up PointsBet's Banach technology, which was acquired in March 2021. Finally, as reported by both Horner and Robert Fletcher of iGamingBusiness. com, DK's bid is not just an attempt to take the shiny toy out of the hands of newcomer Fanatics.
Just to be clear, for those who until recently were feeding Wilson their favorite desert island recipe of payaya and mango, PointsBet Canada has no involvement in this prospective deal beyond potentially severing ties with the American company.
This week, we light the TCL candle for PayPerCanada.
The Company Line
As we mentioned in our Tuesday newsletter, we will be taking a break from our Twitter space for the rest of August. Starting Thursday, September 8th, we will be bringing you weekly updates on the latest in the sports betting and gaming industry.
A plethora of things for your perusal
The five lottery companies that make up the coalition have been watching the competition the OLG has faced since April 4 and wondering when their jurisdiction will follow Ontario's lead. (The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission has committed to bringing on two sportsbook operators by the end of the year to develop land-based and online sportsbooks alongside the province's casino operators, and there's been much speculation about which province will open the door next.)
Lottery corp coalition takes aim at illegal online gambling sites
- Lotto Québec has long been vocal about calling on law enforcement and the federal government to crack down on illegal online operators.
- A flurry of sportsbook advertising between April and the end of June, especially on TSN and Sportsnet, which covered the NHL and NBA playoffs and other major sporting events, allowed sportsbooks to promote their products to a national audience. Given what happened in Ontario, it's fair to assume that awareness of sports betting is growing and that it's creating more competition for lottery companies.
- From last week's release
"We advise media platform owners that they have an obligation to comply with existing laws and regulations by rejecting misleading advertisements of illegal betting sites. The Coalition also urges the federal government to enforce existing laws and regulations to exclude these operators from markets operated by provincial lottery authorities."
There was a respite of sorts from the advertising blitz in July and August, but the start of the NFL regular season next month will almost certainly see a full-scale rollout of advertising dollars as well as additional integration of betting content into game broadcasts.
As the old saying goes, we're just getting started.
Bruce Caughill knows better than most that Ontario's nascent gaming industry has a long (or maybe even longer) game ahead of it.
Rush Street’s Caughill weighs in on Ontario’s launch
When Rush Street Interactive named Caughill its Canada country manager in late March (five days before the April 4 market opening in Ontario), the online gaming and sports entertainment company hired someone with more than 20 years of experience in the Ontario gaming industry. Caughill came to RSI via AGCO, where he was chief legal officer, and also ran his own consulting firm advising international gaming companies and worked for the owner of Niagara Casino.
"As I often say, we're just getting started," Caughill said by phone recently.
That's reflected in RSI's BetRivers Trend Report, released earlier this month. Following the early exits of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors from their respective postseasons, the Toronto Blue Jays have proven to be the most popular team with sports fans placing bets on BetRivers.
The PGA Championship in May, won by Justin Thomas, attracted the most bets of any event.
"When we launched, we didn't have a preseason offering," he said. "Now we have that kind of product, with the NFL, NBA and, of course, hockey opening up.
"In April, we had some end-of-season stuff. This is a long game for all of us, so we're excited to see the longer term.
On an earnings call with investors last week, RSI CEO Richard Schwartz said AGCO's ban on advertising inducements and bonuses was a welcome move for the company.
"Corgill has been recognized in the customer service category at the EGR North America awards for the past three years in a row. As the industry moves to a more operational environment, it's important to stay focused on the customer."
Ontario has emerged as a technology development hub for Rush Street, with "60-70 Canadians" employed, Corgill said. BetRivers is looking to bring on another TSN alumnus to support its marketing efforts. This week we announced that Natasha Staniszewski will join Dan O'Toole as a brand ambassador.

Last week, the Penn National Gaming and Great Canadian Gaming made several identical news, and if you missed them, then here's a hint:
That’s Entertainment
Indeed, Penn National now Penn Entertainment, and Great Canadian Gaming will now be called Great Canadian Entertainment. Rebranding of both enterprises should not be a surprise, given the crossings and shakes taking place in the game world, which, especially in North America, is in the early stages of evolution, since gaming companies are trying to become multifunctional players.
In a press release dedicated to rebranding, Great Canadian's chief operating room Matt Anfinson writes the following:
“Diversification of our capabilities due to additional hotels, entertainment centers and more dishes and drinks increases the level of service of guests and at the same time has a significant positive economic impact on the communities in which we work.”
