The growth of legal sports betting in the U. S. will shape the industry globally through regulation, social acceptance and corporate consolidation over the next two years, a panel of CEOs said at the SBC Barcelona Summit Digital on Tuesday.

“The U. S. coming in has changed the perception of the game,” said Paris Smith, CEO of Pinnacle, a Sports Betting Hall of Fame member with online gaming customers in more than 100 countries.

Giovanni Garrisi, CEO of Stanleybet, Europe’s largest, cited the size of the U. S. market. “When we say 500 million (dollars), they’re 5 billion (dollars),” said Garrisi, one of the five newest members of the Sports Betting Hall of Fame.

Minja Boresnikov, CEO of MaxBet, which operates in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia, said DraftKings' performance is "fantastic." "The impact on the industry, not just in the U. S. but globally, remains to be seen."

Alexis Murphy, CEO of BetFirst, the largest online sportsbook in Belgium, predicted that the U. S. operation will be a "huge catalyst" for global consolidation in the next 24 months.

The four spoke at the SBC Barcelona Summit Digital in a session titled "The Future Landscape for Sports Betting," moderated by Simon Westbury, head of sales at iGaming software provider Digitain.

The panelists agreed that sportsbooks in general are often run with a public misunderstanding of how and why they make money.

"The perception is that we're making a lot of money and everyone wants a piece of it," Smith said, referring to governments, data providers and others. "But actually, globally, we feel that (perception) is shifting in a more positive direction."

Correcting misconceptions among the public and regulators is essential for sportsbooks to embrace the potential and popularity of esports betting, the panelists said.

A market analysis published in June by Grand View Research projected that the global esports market size would be US$1. 1 billion in 2019 and grow to $6. 81 billion by 2027. Several universities have launched esports teams, and members of the Olympic summit in December saw "huge potential" in sports simulations using virtual and augmented reality.

"The issue of ESPORTS is that there is a tremendous earthquake among various generations," Murphy says. "Eventually, competition, skills, and leisure activities with many spectators." He acknowledged the "serious challenges" in regulating esports, but added that "regulatory authorities, governments, and businesses will not disappear, so they will have to respond to them." Ta.

Smith said that ESPORTS was "amazing" for Pinnacle. "Now, many competitions are coming to EEPORTS, and it is a good opportunity for us to stand at the forefront again."

While acknowledging the high interest in ESPORTS, Glass was concerned that it contained much more accidental games than conventional sports.

In the next 12 to 24 months of the industry, Glass said that companies that did not invest during the COVID closed period would face a decline in market share. "The company that used to be strong before will also weaken."

Smith predicts that raising "real" after COVID will be more important, which will attract "huge" mainstream companies in games.

Besnikov states that it is essential to regain the stability before COVID, and that companies will focus on making financial health.

Murphy said that retail games would change dramatically. "Most online activities have recovered well due to the resumption of sports. Speaking of a widespread retail industry, this crisis will have a change in customs and will have a permanent impact. The reconstruction will have to be different from the past, and the retail environment will be completely different.

SBC Barcelona: Panel discusses new worries for bookmakers post-COVID-19

Posted on September 8, 2020 by Cory - Other

Pandemic (global epidemic) has increased the possibility of matchfixing (800), while the lack of information on the occurrence of COVID-19 in the team is increasing the risk of sportsbooks incorrectly lines.

This was the focus of the "Integrity in Sports Betting" panel at the SBC Barcelona Summit Digital on Tuesday.

"The new common sense in sports integrity is clearly different in sports integrity," The important message is, "The important message, is financially financial of sports around the world. It means that flaws have created great opportunities for organizational crimes that develop matchfixing. "

That's why in July, the International Olympic Committee, INTERPOL and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime called on teams and officials to cooperate in sharing information, because if they don't, global sport is at risk.

Faiz Kabir, senior integrity manager at data firm SportRadar, said one of the new challenges for the sports betting industry is identifying players and teams affected by COVID-19. Another is the precarious financial situation of sports teams around the world, who have lost gate receipts and other revenue sources due to the coronavirus.

"We believe a significant number of global sports teams may not survive the pandemic and match fixers are likely to target these clubs," Kabir said. "In areas where match fixing was already occurring, it has been exacerbated by the pandemic.

On the impact of the coronavirus on matches, Kabir said there have been instances where teams have tested positive several times but matches have not been cancelled. Some teams have used youth or reserve players instead.

Oliver Lamb, head of sportsbook controller at Kambi, which provides sports betting services to gaming operators, said, "The value and importance of integrity is now understood by everyone."

How the sport will be affected by the coronavirus, especially with high-level football matches resuming in September, Lamb said. For example, it will be hard to keep track of which teams are using which players. "The first lockdown, although chaotic, was a global lockdown, with no regional differences. "In the future, the impact of COVID will be more localized, affecting only individual sports within certain countries or regions. Stay vigilant, follow the news, follow the procedures, and be ready to adapt at any time. If we approve football tournaments, we must keep following the news, stay informed, and check daily that what we want to offer is still valid."

Niels Erik Folmann, CEO of Danish betting operator Danske Licens Spil, said one of the lessons learned from COVID-19 is to be more careful with the betting options we offer to ensure their integrity is not compromised. For example, the betting operator added table tennis but later removed it from the menu after doubts about its integrity grew.

The panel discussion was moderated by Silvia Paleari, Senior Public Affairs Manager at the International Betting Integrity Association.

The panel sessions will be accompanied by a series of presentations, including one from Tim Heath, CEO of Coingaming, who will detail how the business he founded has used technology to grow its market share. Ciaran O'Malley, Head of Commercial Strategy at Trustly, will share his thoughts on innovation in open banking, while Stuart Godfree, Managing Director at mkodo, will provide his views on what the release of iOS14 and Android 11 means for gaming brands.

The Global Gambling Track, sponsored by iwinBack, will look at the latest developments in Africa, Asia, Australia, CIS and India to identify where the next big Betting & Gaming markets will emerge. Speakers include experts with deep experience in these markets, including Tyrone Dobbin (Managing Director - Africa, Sportingbet), Anton Rublevsky (СEO Parimatch International), Michael Charlton (Asia Pacific Director, GVC Group), Minja Bolesnikov (CEO, MaxBet) and Maxim Afanasyev (CPO, Ligastavok).

The start of the Latin American Business Day will see the region in the spotlight with four panels covering regulation, the expansion of sportsbook offerings outside of football, payments and marketing. Sessions will feature a selection of executives, including JD Duarte (CEO, Betcris), Fernanda Sainz (CMO LatAm, CalienteInteractive), Gonzalo Pérez (CEO, ApuestaTotal) and Rodrigo Afanador (CEO, Zamba. co).

The Responsible Affiliate in Gambling (RAiG) compliance track will explore key issues affecting the affiliate industry, hearing from the UK Gambling Commission, Advertising Standards Authority, Betting & Gaming Council and law firm Mishcon de Reya.

In addition to the conference content, attendees will also have access to a programme of workshops and thematic networking roundtables. This will include a detailed update on the upcoming regulatory changes in the UK, a masterclass on the art of sponsorship activation, and networking sessions on the Dutch and German markets, women in gaming and the tribal gaming sector.

Attendees who missed the first day today can use the on-demand feature of the event platform to catch up on Tuesday's conference content, including keynote sessions by Sportradar founder and CEO Carsten Koerl and DraftKings co-founder, chairman and CEO Jason Robins.

Koerl predicted that as the world emerges from the pandemic, new regulated markets will open up. Perhaps market opening will accelerate, bringing opportunities. That's already happening in the US. It's still a very painstaking state-by-state process, but it's likely much more accelerated than last year. So we see positive trends here that are very much driven by cash needs and taxes.

Meanwhile, Robbins noted that the stock market has started looking beyond the next quarter due to confusion about what short-term performance means during the lockdown. He explained: "What companies are going to be in a better position going into this and when it comes out of this than they were when they left? And so a lot of narrative has started to unfold around the possibility that states, facing major budget shortfalls, might consider legalizing online sports betting and maybe even gaming."

Tuesday content includes Betradar sponsor Sports Betting in Focus Track and Payment Expert Track, sponsored by Neosurf.

SBC Summit Barcelon a-Digital will be held for four days from this week (September 8 to September 11), and there are four main zones: sports betting, casino & gaming, payment & compliance, affiliate and marketing. Equipped with a unique camp track, a networking circle table, and an interactive extract hole.

Scientific Games executives are positioning Hard Rock Casino Vancouver as a showcase for the company's latest electronic table game products. The Las Vegas-based gaming equipment provider has taken over a corner of the venue's 80, 000-square-foot gaming floor, adding 20 player stations, four dealer podiums and a 6-foot-by-30-foot video monitor.

All that's left is gaming customers.

Hard Rock Vancouver (Photo via Facebook)

Due to COVID-19, Hard Rock Vancouver and other casinos in British Columbia have been closed since March 16. Other parts of Canada, including Saskatchewan, Alberta and Quebec, have allowed casinos to reopen under new guidelines, including physical distancing.

Ironically, the pandemic is the main reason the casino industry has turned to electronic table games, called ETGs, this year. ETGs are a product that allows for social distancing and is well-suited to the health, safety and cleaning protocols put in place in response to the coronavirus.

According to Rob Bone, vice president of Scientific Games, who oversees the ETG business, at least 80% of the Las Vegas-based company's current backlog is dealer-assisted electronic table games.

"We believe this segment will grow 10% to 25% over the next 12 to 24 months," said Bone, who oversaw a similar electronic table game product offered by Interblock Gaming before joining Scientific Games last year.

"The demand is there," Bone said, adding that Hard Rock was ready to unveil the system when the coronavirus hit. Scientific Games' product offers players their own "socially distanced" stations for games such as blackjack and roulette.

"Casinos can only seat three or four players at a table, so operators have found ETGs to be a cost-effective way to offer table games," Bone said.

In a July research note after Scientific Games released its second-quarter earnings, Union Gaming Group analyst John Decree said the company was highlighting demand for electronic table games and products that promote cashless transactions, hygiene and social distancing.

Rob Vaughn, Scientific Games

Decree suggested Scientific Games sees opportunity by aggressively grabbing market share for its various products as "casino companies are likely constrained (on capital expenditures) and smaller gaming suppliers are likely struggling with liquidity issues."

Las Vegas has introduced an electronic table in Las Vegas, and has provided ETGs, including International Game Technology and Interblock, a Slovenia. In some places, live table games are replaced by ETG.

Player and broadcaster Mike Sexton, who ‘profoundly influenced the poker world,’ dies at 72

Posted on September 8, 2020 by Cory - Other

The times are different now.

"By using all three companies, you can know the customer's preference," said Horn. "In my world, I was able to increase the number of dealers (thanks to ETG).

Bourne says the popularity of dealer support games is growing.

"The potential and innovation of this type of product are infinite.

Scientific Games has acquired SHFL Entertainment's intellectual property, which developed the first electronic table game through the 2015 Barry Technology acquired $ 5. 1 billion. Scientific Games also has a unique table game title that can be implemented in ETG, such as three cards, pokers, and Let It Ride.

The original ETG is an electronic version of Blackjack, since then enhanced images of vide o-based dealers. The game was mainly used in states where ETGs were classified as slot machines or video game equipment without accepting live table games.

With the establishment of a Coronavirus safety protocol, games using electronic chips and cards are becoming increasingly popular.

Bourne is convinced that scientific Games will stand out, the reason why the reopening of the hard rock Vancouver is welcomed.

"The hard rock was ready to show off the game. We all believe this place will be successful."

Phone systems help casinos adapt to new needs, Allied exec says

"There were other events that helped poker explode, but the WPT was the first to put poker on television and give it that kind of exposure," Sexton told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a 2011 interview.

"Poker is reality TV at its best: real people playing with real money for millions of dollars."

Many in the poker community took to Twitter to express their condolences.

"We learned this evening that Mike Sexton, Poker Hall of Famer, WSOP gold bracelet winner, Party Poker CEO, TV broadcaster, ambassador, philanthropist and beloved friend to thousands, passed away," longtime poker writer and tournament spokesman Nolan Dalla wrote. As casinos across the country cut spending in the wake of COVID shutdowns, many renovations, upgrades and other capital expenditure projects are on hold.

Some resort properties are investing in new communications systems that will increase the efficiency of mobile and remote employees, according to Chris Siragusa, senior vice president of Allied Communications, a business communications company based in West Haven, Connecticut. In addition, the systems will help improve customer outreach and bring employees back to the venue, he said.

Allied is one of the largest providers of unified communications and call center systems in the gaming and hospitality industries, with installations in more than one-third of casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and about half of those in Atlantic City.

A new communications system for a mid- to large-sized casino hotel can cost more than $1 million, and upgrades can "easily" cost more than $500, 000, Siragusa said.

Some companies find this expense too much in today's climate, but they can instead pay a monthly fee.

"You can eliminate all of this up-front investment by building a dedicated system for each individual customer, deploying that system on their property and charging them only a monthly payment," Siragusa said.

Pricing is based on the number of covered devices and licenses, making it easy to compare monthly costs to those of buying in bulk.

Allied's room phones come with a USB port and cable for charging. They also come with a phone replacement warranty that covers any situation, including guest negligence.

SBC provides speaker line-up Summit Barcelona Digital — direct to your desk

"Our clients don't have to worry about buying a new room phone," Siragusa says. "They don't have to worry about managing a PBX anymore. With our solution, we're able to completely manage it for them."

The room phone opens up a world of possibilities to enhance a guest's stay beyond the convenience of a guest unlocking their room with their phone.

"We're taking it to the next level," he says. "Controlling the lights, operating the TV, ordering room service, requesting towels, basically anything you'd call the front desk for." Unlike hotels that put tablets in the room to handle such tasks, Allied's setup eliminates touch points and puts the guest in control. Guests scan a unique QR code with their room phone and access all of these features from their phone.

"Right now, they're not looking forward to touching a bunch of devices that the hotel offers," he says. "This helps them continue to navigate the property amenities via their mobile device." Casinos can also send promotions to their phones. "There are a number of different directions this can take," he says.

Another option is an automated player development system that calls players, tracks their results, and shows customer history when they call back.

Casino-hotel PBX systems are typically 16 to 20 years. Most Allied contracts are for five years, with fixed prices for adding services over the life of the contract.

  • "It's not like local or long distance, where the rates change every two or three years and you can easily change carriers," he says. "It's a system that's built into the premises, and it can take months to install."
  • The company began offering the system about five years ago, so the original contract is about to expire. He says a 3, 000-room hotel on the Las Vegas Strip recently renewed its contract for another five years.
  • Allied also offers two options for servicing the new system: specialized training for the hotel's existing telephone technicians, or having Allied technicians on-site at its hotels in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
  • "Room telephone troubles, conference room settings, tournaments settings and help, ZOOM room settings, etc." "It's like an extension of the IT section."
