Trails and Hiking
The Rocky Gap allows you to enjoy a variety of multipurpose trails. Lake Side Loop Trail is a 5. 3-mile gentle trail that goes around Lake Habeeb, which offers a scenic beauty in the area. The trail is varied, crossing the feet bridge, walking along the coastline, and walking through the forest.
If you go to the viewpot of the Canyon Overlook Trail, a 1. 5km long length, you will receive a magnificent view of one mile (about 1. 6 km). This loop trail allows you to enjoy a short but scenic hiking.
When you get off the valley with "Rock Hop", you will find the Evitz Home Site Trail with a total length of 5 miles surrounded by Hemrock, Mountain Rollel and Sholkenage. Cross a small waterfall on a pedestrian bridge and begin to climb the Evitz Mountain, which was named after one of the first European settlers in Alegany County. This is an ambitious out and back trail that climbs about 1, 000 feet at an altitude of 2. 5 miles. With water and camera, let's go to the summit over a couple of hours. This trail is the best hiking course for people with a strong spirit of challenge.
A fou r-quarte r-length touch of the nature trail offers a paved trail on all levels of hikers. A bench is lined up on the road with the hemlock that continues to the fishing dock, connected to the Lake Side Loop Trail.

History
According to the legend, Jacob Evat is the first European whites (British) who settled in the current Alegany County. He settled on a mountain overlooking the Rocky gap. According to the story, Evat (the mountain was named Evitz Mountain) moved to the wilderness in western Maryland, about 1730. Evitz Creek, where the water of the rocky gap finally flows, was named after Evart. "Home Site Trail" guides a hiker to the top of the mountain where Evart's house was once. The only remaining is the traces of the well.
The Boussie Cemetery is an excellent example of a 19t h-century rural graveyard. Originally owned by Caleb Ruman, the land was sold to Remel Bussy, and his family used the cemetery in the 1800s. Until the Mary Land Park Committee purchased in 1964, the land has been a five owner. The cemetery has many stones during the Sout h-South War era, with two children who died just a few days. < SPAN> There are signs in the hunting area and a safety area is posted. Annual Park Earth Day Celebration – Rocky Gap State Park
Rocky Gap State Park's Day use area is located on the site of the Dairy Farm run by the Macroquis Family, most of the 1900s, just before the park was established. Until 1998, the original Clover Hill Naya was located at the entrance of the park right next to the 50th Exit Lamp. The Macroekee and his wife purchased 16 2-acres land from Thomas Pownell. Pownell had purchased a vast farmland, which was known as the Bretz Farm, which is a majority of the current Rocky gap. At that time, some of the land was called "Clover Hill", "Presant Valley", and "Great Friendship".
Special Projects – Rocky Gap State Park
Edward Habbe (He y-Vib and Pronunciation), the chairman of the Route 40 Association, donated the land established as a state park. He provides land with about 40 other landowners, and many landowners understand that parks will be built on the land and compensate for the land of $ 10. I received it. The Macroekee family paid $ 100, 000 to a part of the land. Habeave was a nearby resident. He was born in Lebanon's Beirut in 1895, but came to Alegany County in 1913, settled in Western Port, then opened a florist in Peedmont, and eventually became National Route 40, and the current state. The business was moved to the location of the Expressway 68. His home and sales office still remain.
Park Photographers – Rocky Gap State Park
In accordance with the 1950 Maryland Special Congress Senate Resolution No. 2, the Maryland Planning Committee requested a recreation survey in western Maryland. The idea of building a park in the Rocky Gap was proposed by Senator Charles Sea by the Lions Club, and the House of Representatives submitted the proposal to the Forest Park Director Joseph Caylor. Later, the 40th Route 40 Association was organized to promote the business and industry of Alegany County through highway development and Rocky gap recreational facilities. The organization gained the support of Governor Tauz and Governor Mandel under the leadership of Habeau (center of the photo). In the first stage, he purchased a Macroekee farm in December 1963, and then obtained another 2, 212 across by December 1966. < SPAN> Rocky Gap State Park Day Youth Area is located on the site of the Dairy Farm, a dairy farm run by the Macroquis Family, most of the 1900s until just before the park was established. Rocky Gap State Park officially opened on July 17, 1974, thanks in large part to the efforts of Mr. Habeeb, whose lake the park is named after. In 1970, a dam was constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers to dam Rocky Gap Run, creating Lake Habeeb. The 243-acre lake is typical of Maryland lakes, requiring a dam and being man-made; there are no natural lakes in Maryland. The park was completed on September 18, 1976. The campground opened to the public in 1978. Including a 1975 general construction loan, approximately $7. 9 million was spent on land acquisition and development for Rocky Gap State Park.
