MGM Resorts plans to reopen its Ohio racetrack casino a day after the competition

BOOK REVIEW: Slot Machines: America’s Favorite Gaming Device

Walking past 406 Market Street in San Francisco, you'll find a historic monument with a brass plaque announcing that Charles August Fay (aka Grandpa Charlie) started manufacturing slots at this location in 1894. The building no longer exists, having been destroyed in an earthquake and fire in 1906.
Marshall Fay inherited 28 slot machines from his grandfather, Grandpa Charlie, and in the late 1950s, Marshall and his brother Frank ran a beer joint in the Bay Area called the Swinging Door. But they had a problem: the slot machines they were sitting on were illegal to own in California at the time. The brothers faced fines of $500 for each machine, if not prison time. Instead of liquidating their slot legacy, the Marshalls moved to Reno, Nevada, and opened the Liberty Bell saloon and restaurant in 1958.
