It did the exact opposite. It further entrenched monopolies and stifled innovation and competition. How many new banks have been created since Dodd-Frank in 2010? FanDuel doesn't want to play the game - they'd rather own the field and knock everyone else off their feet. The foundation of American business is based on true competition, not power plays masked by regulation. Level up FanDuel and level up America. Money should not buy exclusivity through lobbying.

I want to help a Columbia Journalism School student find a part-time job in New York City as a sports writer. Any clues? He has initiative, drive and drive. I met Patrick Mokin when I interviewed for admission to Columbia University as a graduate student. He didn't get in. Last month, he contacted me through LinkedIn and surprised me by saying that he was rejected from college, but four years later, he was accepted to another dream school, Columbia Journalism School. After the interview, we had a short conversation about journalism as a career and J-School, and he wrote me that it inspired him to continue pursuing journalism. He was the only senior I interviewed in the past decade who had a passion for journalism. So we had coffee together yesterday. Paddy has been accepted into the new part-time two-year master's program at J-School, so he will be working while he studies. He was selected as a Dave Marr Scholar. The son of an electrical engineer, he worked summers to save up for college. He is tenacious. In my first assignment at J-School, after trying unsuccessfully to stop 40 interviews at a location in New York, I finally managed to get five opinions out of them. At Fordham University, where I graduated, I wrote more articles than anyone in the history of the student newspaper, and went from one (myself) sports editor and writer to five.

Boom to create content and gamng tech for GNOG

Las Vegas tourism officials announced a national advertising campaign this week to attract fans to the "ultimate destination for watching and experiencing sports." But they're also waiting to see if the Raiders' new policy of only allowing vaccinated fans into Allegiant Stadium will curb visitation.

A similar wait-and-see approach will be applied to conventions, following the announcement this week that CES will require vaccines for attendees at its January trade fair, said Lori Nelson-Craft, senior vice president of communications for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, speaking at the CCIM Southern Nevada chapter for commercial real estate executives.

Nelson-Craft said the move by CES, which traditionally draws about 170, 000 attendees, will likely encourage other conventions and fairs to follow suit. With the U. S. in the midst of a fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, she said, fairs will do what's important to their customers.

"I think it's a big deal for these private companies to make really tough decisions," Nelson-Craft said. "It's really important that our visitors, our employees and our community feel safe during this time. It's a responsible decision. Will it have an impact? Of course it could. We won't know until the back end when the 65, 000-seat Allegiant hosts its first regular-season game (Monday Night Football in September) and there are empty seats. We're hopeful. We're optimistic that it will work in our favor. But the most important thing is that we have to get through this pandemic. We're at a standstill until we can hit some key milestones."

Nelson-Craft said large convention bookings are holding up well for the rest of 2021 and into 2022, but it's too early to predict exact attendance numbers for these shows. She said it will take some time for conventions to bounce back because many businesses have not recovered financially.

"Attendance will be a little bit lower for a while," Nelson-Craft said. "The most important step is to get back to in-person events, not virtual events," she added.

"Our convention customers are still committed," Nelson-Craft said. "There's no substitute for being there, closing deals and shaking hands. You can't do that over Zoom. We're still in the early stages of recovery, but since World of Concrete (in June), we've added 35 shows with over 5, 000 people in size. We may have fewer exhibitors and attendees, but with the new wave and state mask mandates, confidence is growing. The support is still there. There are no cancellations inside the convention center. We've addressed concerns and made sure everyone feels OK. We're not pressuring them. We have to feel right for that trade show. We're praying. We're going to continue to watch attendance and continue to see increases since March."

The national sports ad that launched on Tuesday is titled "The Greatest Arena on Earth." It highlights Las Vegas as "the ultimate destination to watch and experience sports." New York's Madison Square Garden is "the world's most famous arena."

The ads promote not only the Raiders, but also the Vegas Golden Knights, Las Vegas Aces, NBA Summer League, NASCAR, National Finals Rodeo, UFC, championship boxing, college football, college basketball and other events.

"The timing of Allegiant Stadium opening for fans is hot news," Nelson-Craft said. "Not only the venue, but the LVCVA is also investing aggressively in attracting large sporting events. We are spending significant marketing dollars to attract high-profile sporting events."

In 2022, Las Vegas will host the NFL Pro Bowl and NHL All-Star Weekend in February and the NFL Draft in April.

It's not just sports.

With the addition of the new West Hall, the Las Vegas Convention Center has added 1. 4 million square feet, making it now the second-largest convention center in the nation. The destination as a whole, which includes its hotel partners, has expanded from 11 million to 14 million square feet over the last couple of years, bringing in more visitors, Nelson Kraft said. Convention visitors, who tend to spend more than the average tourist and are key to filling rooms midweek, began returning to Las Vegas with the World of Concrete show in June.

Before the pandemic, conventions brought $11 billion to the Las Vegas economy, bringing in 6. 6 million visitors a year, Nelson-Craft said. These visitors are needed to build a recovery.

Las Vegas registered 2. 97 million visitors in June, 70% of the total for June 2019. Hotel occupancy was 76%, compared with nearly 92% in June 2019. The difference was a weekday occupancy rate of 71%, down from 90% in June 2019.

Convention business is essential, especially now that domestic air travel is "all back," Nelson-Craft said. McCarran International Airport has 446 roundtrip flights a day, and more than 75, 000 seats are filled with inbound visitors every day, she said.

"We have more direct flights from more markets into the country than we did in 2019," Nelson-Craft said. "It's making up for the lack of international visitors because of travel restrictions. They balance each other out."

Frank Floor Talk: NIGA reflections

Now that I'm back home and isolated behind masks again, I have time to pause and reflect on the products and trends I saw at NIGA in Las Vegas last month. I previously called the event the best game show of all time. It was based on the age-old wisdom that "absence makes the heart grow fonder."

After a year shackled to Zoom, Facetime, Webex, Meet, Teams, and LogMeIn, it was nice to attend some "old-fashioned" conventions and trade shows. It's weird missing friends and business associates in the flesh. The simple joy of a firm handshake was both nostalgic and a quantum leap forward (albeit with hand sanitizer).

What about the inside? There was a lot:

Digital fundsLet's start with e-cash and digital wallet solutions. Most of the major vendors have made new developments in this category. In some ways, it's long overdue.

My only worry is that the delay is creating a sense of urgency to move forward with harmful methodologies. If you're like me, you haven't used cash at a hardware store or supermarket since 2015. Most payments are made by credit card or PIN debit card.

My wife thinks I need counseling to help me curb my hardware store addiction of buying new tools, but we don't hear much about compulsive DIY shopping leading to serious financial problems. Unfortunately, that's not always the case for gambling addiction in this industry.

Except for only a few exceptions, many of these new games e-cash solutions can be deposited to the account with a credit card. The advantage is that this method is convenient, friendly to customers, familiar with other shopping experience, and can be as easy as touching a mobile phone. However, there is a possibility that debts can be easily taken.

Many people prefer PIN debit transactions to raise money for game accounts. Still, it is too much to use, but the amount set by the bank does not exceed the amount in the account. In other words, there is no debt problem (the cash is only zero!).

Unfortunately, PIN debit requires special precautionary measures known as PCI compliance. Currently, mobile phones have no function. The same is true of the slot machine touch screen player tracking monitor. There are terminals used in food stores and banks. These are all compliant with PCI. You can find out more about this standard created by banks and card providers.

Basically, the approved PIN pads are encrypted in all keys and are much safer than no n-PCI devices. Upgrading all mobile phones to this standard will probably not be a few generations in the future. box- New slot cabinets are nothing new, but NIGA had a few that are likely to make waves in the upcoming national vote. Aristocrat pioneered the "tall curve" a few years ago with its Joe Kaminkow-designed "Double Arc" concept. Now Scientific Games has injected growth hormone into the concept with the ceiling-reaching "Mural" (129 inches tall).

IGT, who has let others get a head start, has made a strong entry into the electronic table game (ETG) market with its latest machine, "Dynasty." A new RNG scheme allows players to bet on different games at multiple tables at the same time, all played on the same terminal. It also has the widest selection of novelty side bets on each table game. These should be welcome additions that could increase ETG's hold.

Aristocrat has a hit with its "Mars X Portrait" cabinet. This is a rare box that is "for sale" but still features mega premium titles like the recently released "Buffalo Link".

Konami has been getting positive reviews for their new standard cabinet "Dimension 49J". The larger format "Dimension 75C" was previewed at Resorts World Las Vegas, down the strip from NIGA.

Aruze also drew attention with their video crap table "Roll To Win". It looks like a regular crap table, with a giant high-definition LED screen instead of felt, surrounded by betting terminals. For Native American operators in California, where dice are still banned (#.#%@!#stupid outdated law), this is as close as you can get to recreating the feel and action of the original game. Plus, the tracking is improved and dealer errors are nearly zero (no math required).

Finally, their boxes aren't new, but Everi's mechanical reel spinners have found the magic formula and are dominating everything in this category. The new releases previewed at this show will likely continue this winning streak.

There were several other new games and cabinets on offer from various vendors, but we'll wait until about 90 days after their show debut to determine whether they're hits or misses.

Game changers?- John Akers came to the show with a new product called Foundations, which is an add-on to the current player and slot tracking system, taking in existing data streams and providing a new perspective. We hope to learn more about it and do a comprehensive review soon. But anything Akers works on is worth a closer look.

Some of the companies he has founded in the past have been successful and some have failed, but the technology he has consistently introduced for nearly 40 years has pushed the industry forward in ways no one else has. John was a central figure in the development of the first slot accounting system, the first player tracking application, the first modern progressive meter, the first automated player bonus system, and dozens of other innovative gaming concepts. Others are always rushing to license (and sometimes steal) his ideas, so when he develops something new, it's worth keeping an eye on.

ETGs- I mentioned IGT and Aruze's electronic table games earlier, and there was a strong sense at the show that the genre has reached or is passing a tipping point. The leaders are Interblock and Scientific Games, but there are multiple new entrants from others. Unlike a couple of years ago, now virtually every Nevada casino has multiple ETGs. Resorts World also has a "stadium-like" configuration that has become common in Macau. We may see more of these high-volume installations in the near future.

Unfortunately, some of the novelty items haven't been doing so well. A modern version of the old Sigma horse racing game hasn't made much inroads. Konami's "Fortune Cup," introduced at past G2E shows, was one of the best of the new varieties, but even that has struggled to produce good numbers.

Great HopeFinally, at NIGA, there was a sense of optimism about the industry from both vendors and operators. The current COVID Delta variant and the resurgence of mask mandates may dampen some of this optimism, but most attendees left the show excited about the industry.

Native American operators (most of them do not rely on conventions or tourists) have significantly increased volume and talk about record profitability. In response, the news announced by the US Gaming Association last week recorded a record high of $ 13. 6 billion (up 22 %) in the second quarter. According to AGA's Bill Miller, CEO, said, "This is just one year ago, given that the commercial gaming income was a record low, this is even better. This is a safe environment for customers. It is a proof of our recovery and commitment to provide a worl d-class entertainment experience.

This is another reason that NIGA's trading show and convention show a turning point, which is a truly best one.
