BRUSSELS Sweden's pole vault king Armand Duplantis ended his unbeatable season with another impressive victory in the Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday.

It was his 15th and final victory of the year, in which he improved his world record three times to 6. 26 meters.

The American-born Swede was once again otherworldly in the cold conditions at the King Baudouin Stadium.

He only managed three jumps: 5. 62, 5. 92 and 6. 11m, the latter a new tournament record. Greece's Emanuil Karalis came second with 5. 82m.

Duplantis regretted taking on hurdling star Karsten Warholm in the pre-season exhibition 100m race in Zurich last week.

"I was more exhausted than I expected. I did well with 6. 11m, but the world record wasn't supposed to happen tonight."

Duplantis added: "Now it's time to celebrate my beautiful season. I'll definitely drink some good Belgian beer tonight!"

The opening session of the two-day finals of the athletics elite circuit was a high-tension affair, featuring many of the Paris Olympics' 82 medal winners.

Olympic champion Julien Alfred won the 100m.

Last week in Zurich, Richardson held off Alfred to win.

But the St. Lucian sprinter turned the tables at the crucial moment, clocking 10. 88 seconds. Richardson eased off before the line and finished eighth of nine in 11. 23 seconds.

"I'm really happy to end the season on a high and to win," said Alfred.

American star Sydney McLoughlin-Levrone made a fine cameo.

The 25-year-old, who won back-to-back gold medals and broke her own world record in the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics, was ineligible for the final as she had not competed in the Diamond League this season.

However, organizers managed to lure McLaughlin Levrone, who won her second gold medal at the Paris Olympics with the U. S. 4x400m relay team, to Belgium to compete in the 200m and 400m flat invitational races as a way to "honor" her Olympic achievement.

Her time of 49. 11 seconds in the 400m race was better than the winning time of 49. 45 seconds set by world and Olympic champion Mari Leidy in the 400m final.

Norway's Jacob Ingebritsen won the always-competitive 1500m in 3:30. 37, beating a strong field.

Ingebritsen, the Tokyo Olympic champion, missed out on the podium in the French capital but is eager to get revenge after once again holding off Kenya's Timothy Cheruiyo and Paris winner Cole Hocker.

Ukraine's Yaroslava Makhchik, a world and Olympic champion and world record holder, won her eighth consecutive Diamond League title with a best of 1. 97m to win on countback from Australia's Nicola Ollislagers.

But in the men's 3000m steeplechase, Olympic gold medallist and two-time world champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco suffered a rare defeat.

Kenya's Amos Selem won in 8:06. 90, with the Moroccan coming in second in 8:08. 60.

In the men's 100m, Jamaica's Akeem Blake won in 9. 93 seconds, beating American Christian Coleman (10. 00) and Olympic bronze medallist and 2022 world champion Fred Curley (10. 01).

Blake's teammate and world bronze medallist Tajae Gayle won the long jump with a season's best of 8. 28m, while Olympic champion Militadis Tentglou finished third, just one centimetre behind Switzerland's Simon Ehammer (8. 16m).

Great Britain's Charles Dobson won the men's 400m in 44. 49s.

The women's discus was won by American Valarie Allman with a personal best of 68. 47m.

"It's the offseason! I can't wait for the fries, waffles and chocolate!"

Tagovailoa urged to retire after latest concussion

Updated September 13, 2024 September 13, 2024 23:20

Miami: Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered his third concussion on Friday and faced calls to retire from the NFL for his own health. He left the game in the third quarter of Thursday's 31-10 home loss to the Buffalo Bills after suffering a head injury while diving into a tackle for a first down. After a hit from Bills safety Damar Hamlin, the 26-year-old was on the floor for a few minutes before walking out on his own and limping slightly while speaking with team staff. The quarterback suffered two concussions during the 2022 season, which, along with other scares, put his future in doubt. But he played last season without any notable issues. The concern is that each concussion increases the risk of serious long-term brain damage that has plagued players in the past. "That's it," former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wrote on X after the incident, adding, "Tua has had too many concussions. He needs to retire due to health concerns." Former Denver Broncos tight end and now prominent TV pundit Shannon Sharpe also agreed that Tagovailoa should retire now. "I really hope Tua is OK, but he needs to seriously consider retirement," Sharpe said on X. His concussions are getting worse and worse,

They say the injury evaluation and questions about Tagovailoa's return should be left to medical experts. Some question whether Tagovailoa was wise to lean into the challenge instead of taking the safe option of sliding to avoid contact. But J. J. Watt said he couldn't blame the quarterback for doing his best to get a first down. "I'd love to see a modern-day gladiator, but I don't want the guilt that comes with it," he said. Guardiola ‘happy’ Man City hearing finally set to start

Updated September 13, 2024 2024, September 13, 2024 22:45 Miami: Lionel Messi had been forced to leave for more than two months due to an ankle injury, but plan to return to Inter Miami on Saturday, Miami's Gerald. Martino said on Friday. "Yes, he is fine. Training on Thursday and he is in the game plan. After training, we will think of a strategy for him, but he is available." And the Argentine added. Inter Miami, who is the leader in the Eastern conference and is at the top in the overall ranking, will welcome the Filadelphia Union on Saturday. Messi injured his right ankle in the Copa American final on July 14. Since then, Messi has missed eight MLS games to which he belongs and this month's World Cup qualifying. "Director Martino said," I was able to regain the world's best players to our team, which was already strong. Inter has already gained the right to participate in the MLS cup playoff, but its order is in October. It depends on how the regular season ends on the 19th, and Robert Taylor, the MLS cup on December 7, has returned to Messi. He said that he gave the team's momentum, but he was more confident that he had already returned to training. He gave me a lot of leadership. My heart is really wonderful.

Cardiff (UK): Jake Fraser McGark has scored 50 points, a top score, and Australia scored 194 in England to survive the T20 series three consecutive matches in Cardiff. England was thought to be more than 200 chase, with captain travis heads hit 31 points with only 14 balls. Australia caught up 119-2 in over 13th eyes, and the flashy inning of Fraser McGark was caught by the bowling of Liam Livingston and closed. Just like the opening game of the series, which Australia won with a 2 8-run difference, it was entrusted to England's spin attacks that reduced damage. Livingston also robbed Marcus Steinis's wicket, but it was surprising that only three were given, despite the number of bowlers in the 2-16 numbers. Real Madrid striker Marco Asensio is being linked with a move to Manchester United, according to the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

Madrid is reportedly willing to offer the 26-year-old Spain international for €30 million, but sources told ESPN on Thursday that the Red Devils are prioritizing the signing of Ajax winger Anthony Asensio first.

Ajax have told United they would consider an offer of around €100 million for Anthony.

The 26-year-old Asensio is not content with starting for Carlo Ancelotti's side and is keen to get back into shape after playing just eight minutes as a substitute in Real Madrid's 4-1 La Liga win over Celta Vigo ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Movistar spoke to Ancelotti, who was awarded the UEFA Men's Manager of the Year award in Istanbul, saying: "I don't know what will happen. If I don't move, from September 1st I will be 100% a Real Madrid player."

Asensio becomes the second Los Blancos player to move to Old Trafford this summer, following midfielder Casemiro's €70 million move to United earlier this week.

However, United may face a battle with Arsenal for Asensio's signature.

22. 53 BST: Cristian Tello has joined MLS side LAFC, the club announced on Friday.

Tello has been with La Liga's Real Betis since 2017, having previously played for Barcelona from 2011 to 2017, during which he was loaned to Porto and Fiorentina.

"Cristian is a dangerous attacker who is a perfect fit for what we are trying to build at LAFC. He has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world and thrived in high-pressure situations like the Champions League. We are excited to welcome him, his wife and family to LA as we continue to work towards our ultimate goal of winning."

21:30 BST: According to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid have joined the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon.

The 25-year-old, who has also been linked with Lazio and Fulham, is reportedly open to a return to La Liga this summer. Reguilon is yet to feature in Antonio Conte's Premier League this season.

21. 00 BST: Calciomercato reports that Internazionale are considering a move for Lazio star Francesco Acerbi.

The Nerazzurri are looking to strengthen their centre-back position this summer as a cover option for Stefan de Bruy and the 34-year-old is thought to be one of three finalists. Acerbi is keen to move to San Siro and is thought to be willing to forgo some of his salary to secure a sweeter deal.

20. 30 BST: The Sun reports that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's move to Chelsea has stalled.

Reports had said personal terms had already been agreed, but the latest is that the 33-year-old Barcelona striker wants a two-year deal to move to Stamford Bridge. Manager Thomas Tuchel is hoping to find a middle ground to get the deal done before the transfer window closes.

20. 00 BST: Harry Winks is set to complete a move to Sampdoria, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The 26-year-old midfielder joins the Serie A club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. Winks made just nine appearances for Tottenham Hotspur last season and has since struggled to establish a regular spot in Antonio Conte's side.

19. 30 BST: According to L'Equipe, Barcelona have opened initial talks over the signing of Hamari Traore.

It is reported that Rennes are keen to sign the 30-year-old right-back, who has been at the club for five years, and that a formal proposal could be made by the Blaugrana within the next 48 hours. Traore made 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, providing 10 assists and scoring three goals.

19. 00 BST: Saul Niguez wants to stay at Atletico Madrid, despite recent interest from Roma, reports Marca.

The La Liga star spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but since returning to Diego Simeone's side, he appears focused on earning a regular spot at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The 27-year-old has four years remaining on his nine-year contract, which he signed in 2016.

18. 30 BST: Chelsea Women have completed the signing of Serbian international striker Jelena Cankovic.

The 2 7-yea r-old midfielder is known to be an important target for Emma Hayes this summer, and joins Rosengard with a thre e-year contract. Join a thre e-year contract from Rosengard: "I am very happy to be able to join Chelsea, and I feel that it is wonderful to be able to play with a team with such victory culture.

"I'm looking forward to seeing fans and playing in front of fans," he said.

18. 00 BST: Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Westham United is negotiating with Adnan Yanzai.

Former Manchester United star, whose contract with Real Socieda expired this summer, is a free agent, and if David Moe's return to the Premier League, he is willing to transfer.

The 2 7-yea r-old aggressive midfielder played 33 games in La Liga Espanola last season and scored three goals.

According to 17. 30 BST: Sky Sports Germany, Joshua Girkze seems to have completed the transfer to Bologna on Saturday.

The 2 1-yea r-old striker will transfer to Bologna, Serie A for a transfer fee of 8. 5 million euros. It is reported that a fou r-year contract will be signed in Xintiandi.

17. 00 BST: Lyon's midfielder Fusem Aua said to ESPN that the contract had been broken, although the contract had been agreed with the transfer of 10 million euros with Notingham Forest.

One of the reasons is that Forest wanted an unusual payment system, in which a forest would pay 10 million euros in six times by 1. 6 million euros during the contract period. Lyon wants 15 million euros, and is reported to have been looked down on Forest's proposal. The ESPN "Insider Notebook" conveys the whole picture.

16. 30 BST: Atletico Madrid and Notingham Forest are negotiating on the rental transfer of Lenang Roddy on the left side back.

The 2 4-yea r-old Roddi was only in La Liga Espanja in Atletico last season, and has never been in the replacement of two games this season.

According to officials, Brazilian national team FW told Diego Simeone that he would like to transfer. Director Simeone wants to remain Roddi, but is currently discussing between Atletico and Forest, and the Premier League club has not yet talked to Rodody.

16. 00 BST: Barcelona spent a lot of transfer money this summer, but returning from the injury may feel like a new player.

15. 33 BST: Erik ten Hag wants to keep Harry Maguire at Manchester United, despite removing the defender for the Liverpool game, sources have told ESPN.

The club captain was criticised for his performances against Brighton and Brentford and was out of his place when Liverpool visited Old Trafford on Monday, despite ten Hag's public backing.
